I'd like to go with a better engine and I'm currently collecting parts for a new Chevy 301. However, the current engine, (Chevy 301), is the same one that I installed, (with help from my older brother Bob), at age 14, when I bought my 55. With the history, it's just tough to actually make the change.

Here are a couple of photos. The first is from about 1984 and the second is current. The only real difference is now it's bored .125, where before it was over bored .080. Still has literally the same carb. intake, heads, cam, lifters, rods, crank, etc. but freshened up a bit.

I did install a steel flywheel last year. This replaced the 1969 date code Chevy cast flywheel that was installed on the engine in 1970. The cast flywheel was made about 3 days after my 6th birthday. LOL!
