    I see a pattern developing.

  5. my daughter and I just picked up a '64 chevy II Nova for her first car. We'll keep the 6 automatic in it for economy sake and she wants to go the satin look for finish. Probably a pastel color of some kind.

I'm sure it will be whatever I finish first. The '67 GTO or the '41 Ford truck, hopefully the truck (no back seat). She's 8 I better get busy.

My only kid is my 12 year old daughter and she could give a shit less about old cars and hates loud stuff. I think she will be more like a late model Mustang convertable type. She likes those.

I have to disagree wholehartedly. With all the saftey equipment on cars today kids never learn to really DRIVE a car. The end up with a false sense of security. ABS Traction control etc... wht happens when the computer takes a dump on whatever they are driving 12 years from now on and they have to make an emergency manuver?

Its like learning how to do math on a calculator BEFORE you know how to add in your head.

My take: build them a dependable car, and spend some money on a good race driving school. The skills they will learn from a professional driving school will far outweigh any electronic gizmos to make them "SAFE"

My first car was a 67 Plymouth Belvedere II convertable that my Dad bought for 50$ and gave me on my 13th Birthday, by the time I was 16 it was running and driving with a 440 out of a 68 New yorker. Guess my dad is a terrible father. but guess what, I never wrecked it. I did eventually run low 11s in the quarter with it. The only money my dad ever spent on the car was the original purchase, and he paid Insurance as long as I stayed in school. graduated with a BSEE. I've since returned the favor and bought him a 50 Chrysler we put the same 440 in.

My Daughter? She is getting a 53 Plymouth Suburban with a Flat head with dual carbs, split exhaust, a T-5 trans and 4WDB.

My daughter was born first also, and my son three years later. My daughter wants a 66 or 67 Nova wagon, Bags and old Torq's. Thats what she came home from the hospital in, so that why she says thats what she wants. Cool with me...

  13. I'm with you. My first car was a 69 AMC SC/Rambler at 14. Getting a kid into a Volvo like that will turn them into a cellphone using, radio playing, friend hauling hazzard. Keep them off my street!

My oldest is almost 15. He'll be driving my 65 Ford pickup. Why? 352v8, 3 on the tree, drum brakes, no radio...he'll need to learn to DRIVE, not multi-task. An I'd put money on the fact that if my 65 could take a pretty hard hit in an accident.

I'll probably be giving my 55 chev to one of them but regardless it won't have the tunnelram or 4 speed.Which ever one gets it will have to really learn how to drive an old car first

If I ever have a daughter, I'd like to build her the Griswold Family Truckster. I dunno, maybe I'm a little cruel...

As a 20 year old girl, I can answer this well. When I was 16 my dad got me a 1996 Toyota 4runner that needed some work done. My brother and him fixed it up for me, but taught me all of the basics (how to change a tire, oil, dent removal). 4 years later I have decided to build myself a '34 ford coupe to match my dads. I'm starting to work on it in a few months and I can't wait. The 4runner is my safe daily driver, and the coupe will be my cool car.

  18. My daughters have not said what they would like, but my oldest son has told my boyfriend and i that he would like a '54 ford club coupe or a '34 ford coupe. Talk about going from one side to the other!!! (hope he settles for the '54, cause there is no way he will get a '34 before me)!

My sister is getting a V8, rear-drive (slow) '84 Thunderbird. I put 12" brakes on it and a lot of suspension work into it so it will handle and dad painted it up however she wanted. She has helped the whole way and it's going to be cool (but non-HAMB friendly ;)).

I'm proud of her and it will be a fun first car. She loves cars, I don't think it will be long before she has something for this board.

I restored this 68 a couple of years ago for a 55 year old school teacher.
My 12 year old daughter has been stuck on a 68 Mustang ever since.
The problem is, I hate Mustangs.

My 10 year old princess has laid claim to my 37 Gmc truck

  24. Whats cool about this post is how much you guys love your daughters. Every flavor of parental passion has been posted here - God knows this country is strong in no small part because our families are strong.

My girl Loves VW Beetles - old and new. She is 10, by the time I need to get something going a new beetle will likely turn up for cheap (Dad is cheap) and we can work on it together. Time will tell... I would love to update an old beetle and do a custom vintage one - OK I'll stop, I know thse cars are controversial here.

To me, its about doing something together with the girl. She loves candy green and its a good color for a bug - regardless of old or new

My daugther is 15 1/2. Just got her permit.
    My son is 12.
Both have never known anything other than old cars. They could be trusted to walk around a cruise since real little, without worry they'd scratch a car, step on running boards etc.

I offered to buy my daugther a 2000 sunfire GT with sunroof, automatic, CD player, A/C etc.
She said: Umm, No! I can't go cruising in that! I want a old bug.

So, I bought her a 63 Beetle with sliding rag top. It's a cool little car. She's as happy as can be. My wife also loves it. So they sorta share.

Bugs may be OT here, but it fits the theme of the tread.

She already asked how soon before we can lower it, and put www's on it...:D
She's went out every day since we brought it home to check on it, dust it off, sit in it. Pretty cute from my point of view.

Mine is getting wrought iron bars over her windows and a padlock on the outside of her door.

  28. Must be something about bugs and girls...my 3 year old wants a beetle (old or new) when she gets "really, really" old, lol.

Maybe we can find a Porsche 911 mill then too!

    A chastity belt...

    But after that...

My 7yo really wants that Pink 49 Kustom with the removeable victoria hard top grafted on in "American Custom Cars"... I think it's Jah Johnstons car...

    And she also loves flatheads...

But the other day we were watching a video with old race cars and she asked me "Papa, which car would you want if you could buy any of them?"
I said, "Oh, I don't know... I like them all."
She said, "I wouldn't want any of them..."
I said, "Why... You don't like any of those cars?"
She said, "No, I'd just rather BUILD one of my own."

    I still get choaked-up... ;)

So I guess we'll BUILD whatever she's interested in at the time... I just want to encourage the desire to build it with her own hands, whatever it is...

But I'm thinking an old flathead powered F-100...
