Need to figure out a latch on the T roadster. I would like something small and run a cable somewhere hidden. 4EC7CBAE-77F8-4BE0-BBBB-76C15707554E.jpeg BD4AFF90-E3D2-48D3-89EB-2C5252A8E2F8.jpeg

On my T coupe, I used a door latch from a regular house door. The door lock on the man door to my garage quit working so I purchased a replacement from the hardware store. The latch mechanism was fine so I used it on the car. Some fabrication involved. It turned on a 1/4" square shaft so I made a release lever using a spare 1/4" drive socket brazed to a small lever that is pulled by a cable. IMG_1414.JPG

A side compartment latch off an FLD Freightliner. It is very similar to the bear claw that tombstone posted. My buddy has a heavy truck body shop and many years of spare parts lying around. The price was right (free).

...I pull the cable...lift lid...let down easy then push the knob down again...no fancy return anything...

I have some foam for stops...rubber ****ons would be more upscale...

I got the latch with the car...there was a tab on the inner lid to fasten to I just had to be creative...looking at it right now I should wrap the cable around the bolt at the latch...if it came off Stogy's in trouble...

I used a Model A trunk handle that I picked up at a swap for $5. For the latch, I just fabbed up a mount and hook. The handle turns and hooks the latch. This too on a '27 T. Been good for 7 years.

How does that latch the trunk lid when the lid opens up and the striker points up? Doesn't the lid just lift off of the latch?

I used a “marine” hasp and hinges on my fibergl*** T body. Had a place to put a small padlock if needed… E3BEB5CD-286C-400D-B8A8-2AF0A98C6D21.jpeg

Although these examples are hood latches with a safety ketch, I think this style would work well.
Fully adjustable, spring loaded, with the release cable under the receiver.

I guess it's the angles that are playing with the eyes and mind...even my pics are hard to figure out...for angle...have you tried to lift it up without pulling the cable?

Both of my A's have a '60's Ford trunk latch that accept a cable. Trunk lid just has a bolt going through the original handle hole to grab the latch.

  15. I am not building a T or an A but I am using these to hold my trunk lid down on my '40.
