That woke up my 70 year old pea brain, seems there was a wheelstander like that, had all the emergency lights on the roof, thinking it was white.
    Jog any memories ?

Look up Emergency West. Dual engines in the bed behind the rear axle. Here’s the most if not too much that I can show. IMG_3083.jpeg IMG_3084.jpeg

Adjusted the brakes, changed the oil&filter, and topped off the fluids on Rusty. Getting up and down off the concrete is getting to be a real killer. In my younger days I would have done it on a gravel drive in half the time and not given it a second thought. Unfortunately those days are long gone.

Reminds me of a ramp truck during the 80’s that a friend had that went by the name Bimbo. One Sunday at Terminal Island we had to get it to haul another friend’s 63 Nova back because the crank broke at the 4th main cap.

That old ramp truck made me think, have you ever seen a ramp truck with a tilt bed, like those aluminum tilt trailers? No ramps, easy on and off and the car sits level during transport. Or would that not work? Cheaper than a roll back by far.

  12. I only have one pair of medium height jack stands. Last Saturday, I put them under my trailer to remove the rear axle for repair since the LR hub decided to come off on our way home from Lloydfest. This afternoon, I raised the front of Papaw to remove the exhaust and what’s left of the manifold flange. So, I raised the trailer to put my short stands under it and when getting up, I bashed the shit outta my head on a very pointy taillight bracket. I hit it so hard, I heard a sickening squish noise. I now have an L shaped dent in my head. Good thing it was my head, I would have been pissed to hurt a useful part of my anatomy. We must have a certain look on our faces when coming in the house hurt. Tonya knew instantly I was in bad shape. Thank goodness I have a Navy Corpsman for a wife.

Andy, I didn't like your post because you fucked your head up. I liked it because your wife's a Navy Corpsman! Bad Ass for sure!

I ripped a good layer of skin off my forearm on the bottom of the new rocker working on the race car when I was crawling under it.

  16. I drilled my fenders for the hood pin plates

    20240916_152804.jpg 20240916_152831.jpg

Now working on attaching the fender sections to the cowl, even though they were cut from these fenders a few years back they have since distorted shape.
I did drill the cowl on the upper part, now I have to contort the lower to get the best fit I can, of course the tighter I tightened the bolt the more it twisted shape.

Today I fixed a problem that I've never seen before. The brake light switch in Clarence is the pressure type; installed in a tee in the brake line. It's been losing brake fluid for a while now. It started getting worse down at Lloydfest. Today we checked all the wheel cylinders and all the brake line connections. Nothing appeared. So while I pumped the brakes Steve was under Clarence watching. He discovered the problem; the brake light switch was leaking where the two pieces of the case are crimped together. Bought a new switch; installed it; bled the brakes; and now it's good as new! Works as designed. I've had to replace several of these over the years because they quit working but I've never had one leak.

I'm seriously considering changing out the pressure switch this winter for a lever type like GM (I think) used back in the day. I'll have to figure out how to mount it but that should not be much of a problem.

Had me worried as we're driving Clarence to Pennsylvania, New York, etc. two weeks from now. My friend Steve (mentioned above) has to be at a wedding in New York the same time we're going to be in Pennsylvania. After the wedding they are going to Niagra Falls. After the car show we're going to we're going to Niagra Falls. It's likely we'll be there on the same day.

  18. @atch, I read somewhere on here that many have gone to the Harley Davidson pressure brake switch to solve the failure rate of the ones we have all used over the years. I had the same issue and went to a GM mechanical from a 64 Chevy.

I pulled the lower arms off the front of my '51 and started the process of stepping the outer ends.

Carefully braced and cut off the ends, just need to get some plate stock in now to fab up the gussets and other plates

First part of the 'Winter Improvement Program' including, New front dampers, Gasket and seal replacement on the motor bottom end and transmission, new wiring harness and clean out and resin lining on the fuel tank.

That said, anyone have any able to help getting an 'Okie Bush' to the UK? Shipping is ludicrous from the usual suspects.

    I searched that switch

and also the late 40's Chevy lever switch

Are these "normally open" and touching the brake pedal arm? i.e., they make contact when the button or lever is unloaded?

Replacing rubber bushings on track bar, sway bars and dog bones for shocks, as well as motor mounts on '48 Ford coupe. Why is it that every time I replace a stock flathead motor mount that the bolts only come flush with the tops of the water pump tabs? I wound up using a bottle jack and a long extension against the heads of the bolts in order to get enough thread for the washer and nut.

Next up is replacing all the brake lines.

Have to set the lifter preload. I had to mock up the intake just to see the whole effect. IMG_2116.jpeg IMG_2119.jpeg

IMO this one would be a much better candidate but then what do I know? Anyway, looks like it doesn't have split rims and no air brakes which is a plus. Not sure of the engine but it isn't a 348/409. Body looks decent and the cab over makes for a way cool factor.

Nor sure how comfortable it would be for the drive from Mentone to Bonneville and back but then Chic did it in her roadster with no top.

Saw this at Speed Week this year. Tow rig is an old moving van; cool factor.
