I just sealed the deal on the 461 and I had him toss in a 400 shortblock to mock up the mounts. I would definitely grab that 400 if I wasn't 3 states away:cool:

Double checked hand brake location and welded in a bracket w/nuts to facilitate mounting the little fire extinguisher on the firewall. Also started making a template for firewall upholstery.

  4. It has begun!! This is the beginning of a dream I’ve had since I was 15 years old. I’ve got a Chevy truck 12 bolt going in with 6 lug axles. IMG_8224.jpeg IMG_8225.jpeg IMG_8227.jpeg IMG_8184.jpeg

    IMG_2678.jpeg IMG_2728.jpeg Easy day.
Hands down the worst part of my ‘55’s exterior was the old tail lights. I couldn’t find any originals, so settled for re-pops. They showed up today, so put them on.

    I was working on this.

    PXL_20241001_005351830.RAW-01.MP.COVER.jpg

    I am calling it done.

Nature and engine heat take it from here. PXL_20241001_010542442.RAW-01.MP.COVER.jpg PXL_20241001_010602810.RAW-01.MP.COVER.jpg

Looks like a blower mounting flange welded to a Red Ram dodge hemi intake?

    That's because it is.

  17. I'm still screwing around with these silver fender pieces, I did drill an upper mount, lower mount and running board mount.
Pretty flush to fender on top and bottom but middle is low, I made up a jig and heated the silver middle section thinking I could change it's mind on how it sits.
That somewhat worked but still not flush, I'm going to call it close enough though, this thing is about beast mode, not beauty mode.
Now to figure out a latch that doesn't make the two fender pieces rub on each other or interfere with opening the door.

Decided to sell some Harbor Industries breathers out of the collection to a guy that's specifically looking for them.

And helping (giving) a different guy with some nos Edelbrock tunnel ram gaskets that he couldn't find anywhere.

Took the t-bucket for it's annual inspection so that's all good for another year.

  18. I'm also working on a plan on how I'm going to remove the bed box off the top of the blue bed on the 57. I need to remove it, unload all my parts out of the blue bed, remove the blue bed, decide if I'm going to try and clean the frame at that point or just swap the floor and steps from blue to the other bed and put it back on.
I want to get the 41 out of the back part of the garage and replace it with the 57 within the next 2-3 weeks before winter comes knocking, they're predicting our first snow around Oct 23.
So pretty much what I did with the Henry J last year, out before winter so the 41 could get in, then finish up what I didn't finish in the spring when it warms back up since the storage side of the garage isn't heated.

  19. I had to pickup Little Truckdoctor at school because he puked in the nurses office. This was early, and after picking him up, there was no way I was driving back into the city to go back to work. Truthfully, I had to stay home because I wasn’t sure if I would have to take him to the doctor. So, with a free day, I got to mow the yard (yawn!) but, I also had time to strip the 12 bolt and cut the old axle saddles off. Now, it’s ready for a test fitting in the truck. I pulled some measurements and I’m really surprised as to how close a 69 C-10 12 bolt is to the original axle. It looks like a great fit by the measurements. By the way, this is all Lloyd’s fault! Thanks Buddy for the help, support, and encouragement on this project!! @Lloyd’s paint and glass IMG_8236.jpeg IMG_8238.jpeg IMG_8237.jpeg IMG_8239.jpeg

  22. I added one more nutzert/bolt in the middle, so my 2 options on latches is horizontal across both pieces or vertical only on the black side.
I wonder if door edge guard would be enough a cusion between the 2 if I do the horizontal ?

    20241001_170405.jpg

I'm leaning towards the rubber ones, matches the black paint and the most cusion if I accidentally open the door into it.

  27. Lumpy, my first thought was to use the Saginaw SM326 I have. I took it apart the other night and it’s in really good condition inside and it’s the 2.85 first gear version. I also have a TH-350 I bought from Lloyd. This may come down to simple economics, I have everything except a shifter for the automatic. For the Saginaw, I would need to buy a flywheel, starter, and shifter. For the shifter, in a perfect world, I’d buy a Hurst Master Shift 3 speed, but the shifter and install kit are approaching $600. I’m really still on the fence, I change my mind daily. The 12 bolt is a 3.73 open differential. It’s not ideal for the highway, but the darn thing is spotless inside, the backlash and pattern are perfect. If I change it, it will be for a 3.07 with a Posi, but I’m going to run like it is for this summer.. The rear tire will be a 235/75-15 which is about 29” tall. I looked around for a 235, but good runners are bringing $6-800 around here. It’s hard for me to spend that money when I have a GM crate 350 I bought new with less than 10,000 miles on it.
