  1. I tried hot gluing a 41 dime onto the headlight knob about 13 times, just when I thought it was stuck it became unstuck,
I think I'll try some rtv next.

I've been on this for what seems like forever, with the looong wait times for machine work. +.030 small journal 327. Ready to come off the stand, finally.

    Assessing the situation.

  5. Improving the visibility of these lights.

They are very low to begin with and with the car being sledded that are way low. Also trying to figure out how to separate the indicator from the brake lamp by possibly modifying the end cap.

    Thoughts or experience welcome.

  6. I recall reading an article a while back where a comparison was done on what to use for taillight background material to provide the best reflection. The winner was bright white for what is worth.

  7. When I made my own taillight boxes I used white, I did experiment with chrome spray paint but the white illuminated the best.

What color will the dash be painted? I like the black faces on Washington Blue in Clarence. I think if the dash will be a really light color that the white faces will look good.

  14. I painted the underside of the tilt front on the 41, first time ever having paint on it.

And shortened the pin on the hood pin so it better locks itself in place. I had planned on running the pins the other direction which they wouldn't have had a chance of falling out, but I hadn't planned on the button head fasteners being in the way of sliding the pin in.

Got the grille and headlights installed. And battery cables done; jumped the solenoid and turned it over once just to check my starter rebuild. Still a long way to go... KIMG0335.JPG KIMG0336.JPG KIMG0337.JPG

Cutting 3 Chevy truck cabs into pieces and then assembling select pieces into the cab I want. That is the plan for the next couple of weeks after I get the daily chores done.

  20. I started unloading the 57's parts and pieces out of the bed, in preparation to remove both beds.

Made many trips up and down that red ladder putting stuff in the overhead, filled it up.

Everything has to come out so I can rotate all 4 vehicles around to get the 41 out and the 57 in the above garage door I'm standing over.

    20241114_151340.jpg

Down to 2 front fenders, a rear fender and all the door guts and windows but I'm out of room to store it away, looks like I'll be moving it 2-3 times during the rotation.
You can see the 41 in the back, that's where the 57 is going.

I'm no carpenter or plumber so it's been at a standstill for several yrs now, but I got a great idea lol

  26. The engine and transmission has been installed in Papaw. The driveshaft is in as well, but I suspect it maybe 1/2” too long. Today, Little Truckdoctor is off to his first trip to the salvage yard. We are looking for a gas pedal assembly. IMG_8547.jpeg IMG_8552.jpeg IMG_8553.jpeg IMG_8554.jpeg

Here's a short story about driveshafts. Of course, this has no bearing on your deal, but you all know I like to ramble on...

When Ed and I put the 283/PG in Clarence in 1991 we had the engine/trans and rear end mocked up in place. The Powerglide yoke and 8" Ford rear had the yokes still on. As the PG and its yoke were original to the car they came out of (1966 Impala that my grandmother bought new in the fall of 1965) we made the assumption that if we slid the yoke in to where the line between shiny and rusty met up with the rear seal it would be in the right location. We clocked them to be in phase and measured center of yoke hole to center of hole. We then knew how long the finished driveshaft needed to be.

We went to Bill Huxel's salvage yard in Union, Missouri (RIP Bill). We asked Bill where he kept driveshafts. He said "see that white van down the hill about a hundred yards? They're in there." Ed and I went to the van and started measuring driveshafts. That van was very nearly full to the roof with driveshafts. I'm guessing there were between 100 and 200 in there. There are only very few sizes of U-joints in American made cars and everything Bill had consisted of only two sizes. Note: the PG and 8" take the same U-joint. We figured if we found anything within 1/8" we'd be golden. We found two that were within those tolerances and picked the best looking one.

That driveshaft is still in Clarence and has been running smooth as a new one for over 30 years. In yellow marker that boneyard guys use it says 1957 Ford on it. I'll never erase that or paint over it.

Another note: turns out that the PG wasn't any good so it got replaced soon thereafter with a T350. I don't know what it's out of. I bought it from another salvage yard and it was sitting by their office already out of the car. I immediately took it to a mechanic friend that I knew and trusted for many years and Mike rebuilt it for me before I installed it in Clarence. That trans would probably still be running "as-is" but I had it rebuilt anyway when the 283 got replaced with the crate 350 in 2015.

  28. Finally beginning to get to the fun stuff, all that's left is everything
