I think my heads will limit mine from ever making a run that good, '61 348, with bigger valves and screw in studs, and probably my age.
Did you ever come up north to run at "Rock Falls" for the Fallout? I vaguely recall your '62 several years back.

Because 62 Pontiac Tempest parts aren't growing on trees I bought a 2nd one today...this one isn't sun baked like the first one so it will provide interior and other goodies but the body is trash.

Yes I ran up there three years, the last time I ran it ran under the roll bar requirements (11.33) I pulled the car off the track. It has sat waiting on a go ahead to make the car safe to race for a spell but now has the go ahead and I have been making headway on that. Truly hope to have it back up there next year. Some of the most fun I have had when racing is with the Melt Down guys.

I originally built the '53 with sa healthy 427, but last year they were going to have 348-409 cars featured at Fallout. As I am only 5 or 6 mi from the track and I had the 409 built about 1o years ago. and it was just sitting there, I thought why not? Got it all ready and on the Sat of the weekend, The clutch slave cyl failed to release. So back to the drawing board. I'll be 78 next year, so my son may run it.

Did you make the fender well headers or were they something you bought? I have a 37 Pontiac that will get one of my 409 engines and well need to figure that part out for this car.

The headers are something I made from a set of Patriot tri-5 BBC. I had a set of 409 flanges and did a bunch of cutting and welding. I have pictures if you would like them. I also have another set of flanges.

20241220_172333.jpg My pal Scott modified #6 header tube to give me more clearance to the Tempest subframe. Almost time to mount it on the run stand:cool:

I did find a company that well sell a kit for the W engine (kinda pricy I thought). I have a long way to go before I'm ready.
Would be great to see some pictures of how you did it, could help my piggy bank in my decision on how I attempt to pull it off. I have small and big block engine options for this car also.

I finally replaced the pesky turn signal switch in my old truck. Now the brake lights keep working when I signal for a turn.

Of all you do, that’s simple. Is it any wonder “finally”. :)

On the flip side of that. I had a newly filled tank of argon. I forgot to close the tank valve knowing that the mig trigger had an ever so tiny leak. There went good money into the wind.

Made aluminum filler inserts ...I'll polish them up before I glue them to the fabricated steel gauge panel holding the new gauges to the stock dash PXL_20241222_000058209.jpg

Hey Phil , it was a Heidts kit... IMO the shock angle is a little too much for my liking. I told the owner I could make new lower mounts if he decided to do so.

When I put the 9 inch in mine I thought the stock angle was a little extreme so I put the new mounts a little more inboard.
Now of course that means a shorter shock but with the lowering springs I needed a shorter shock anyways, so now I need a shorter shorter shock. Lol

Removed all the transverse rear suspension and converted the '41 Merc to coil springs and tube shocks. Springs are Tru Coil 13"x5" 150#/in from Speedway, and mounts are generic circle track stuff with homemade brackets to mount them. Rides great! merc coil springs.jpg

I worked on flattening out several punctured holes, not sure what was going on there but both sides of the bed rail. Some of them were right next to the rolled round tube on the underside making it a little tricky to get to.
