Removed the rear shocks, leaf, and shackles from my 40 Ford as the first phase of my suspension upgrade and repair. Got as far as degreasing the rear pack. Will be going with Millworks reverse eye main springs, new shackles, and new shocks

  3. Got the tank down on the DD and ready to remove the fuel pump. Rain forecast for tomorrow evening and snow forecast next Sunday so I'll get the pump unbolted and wait for parts. Looks like I'll be replacing it in the cold and snow. While getting in there to lower the fuel tank I discovered that the left rear axle is leaking so a new bearing, seal and brake job is in the near future. This on a vehicle that's worth double its value every time I fill up the tank. The saving grace: I just paid my personal property tax on the old beast. It was $6.08. Haven't had a car payment on it since 1997 and only paying liability insurance, not comprehensive. I'm happy with it as long as the radio, heater and A/C still work. Money I would ordinarily spend on it goes toward getting the '29AA running, titled, licensed and insured.

Finishing the small details on Clarence keeps me busy in the shop. There are about twenty things on my "things to finish" list. You guys all know how that goes. I'm gathering parts to do the most important. The battery is mounted beside the passenger side frame near the rear wheel. I'm going to put remote terminals somewhere in the engine bay. I've got the terminals and need to fab a place to mount them. Also I'm following along on the "battery cable size" thread to size this wire. I also started "remote battery terminal question". It looks like @'29Gizmo answered that question sufficiently in the very first response.

Working on adding a Gear Vendors overdrive to the back of the Torqueflite in my AD truck. I got pretty lucky on the placement of my crossmember and the choice of an 8 inch wide tunnel when I built this years ago, I certainly didn't have this in mind back then. Added a little welded in radius in the center of the frame for the drain instead of relocating the plug. This one has the optional deep sump.

  11. I've taken the last couple days off from working on the 57 p/u but the bed wood kit came in today.
I wrestled the wood in the house and the stainless out into the garage, hopefully that keeps the wood from warping.
I'm not sure what I'm tackling next on that bed, probably wire wheel and rust coat the areas that need it.

If the wood does warp, you can straighten it out by putting in an environment that will bring the moisture to the level it currently is at, and you can prevent it from warping by keeping the humidity in the area it is stored in at the right level.

I spent a day chasing a plug for my generator to aid for a power loss from the upcoming forecast weather. Took 5 different stops to fined what I needed all the other places were out, It's like a pandemic broke out around here.
Hope all my effort wards it off.

  29. This blizzard has me staying in, hunkering down and studying wiring diagrams in preparation for a springtime thrash to attach the body, assemble and wire up the '29AA. I'm just thankful that the storm came in as freezing drizzle, not freezing rain and an ice storm, which usually means days to hours of power outages. Woke up this morning to no power interruptions, so despite the heavy, blowing snow, all's good.
