Is that a 6 volt coil? I'm sure you had this all covered but, other than I don't see the positive wire nor the ballast resister powering it which it will need and then some being ran on 12 volts, I don't see anything wrong with it.

  2. 12 volt coil.
    No resistor ……..yet.
Just wanted to hear it hit
Positive jumper disconnected in the pic

  3. Harvested another 6. A 250 this time. Ran good
Another future something engine. Should be my 4th or 5th sm420. So I guess I’m good for parts for the flatbed.

Went up to my buddy's shop to lend a hand installing his new set of headers. He had sent them off to be Jet Hot coated.

  11. Had an intermittent strange "ding-ding-ding" noise coming from the bell housing on my '53 pickup 235 with a "stomp" starter, swapped it out for a later solenoid starter, noise gone! It looks like the pinion gear would ride along the output shaft a little way and hit the tooth on the ring gear, which would push it back for a little while.

Had the same issue lately with a 54 and it turned out to be a weak return spring on the starter solenoid causing the drive to bounce off the teeth of the flywheel.
What starter did you use to in the retrofit?

  13. It came from a '54 sedan as well. The original starter was the foot start type. At least now I can start it from the engine bay with a jump switch.

My backordered parts arrived so I spent the afternoon painting the new crossmember and then drilling out 24 spot welds.

Got a pile of patina I can throw on the new paint to disguise it lol

  28. Little Truckdoctor and I finished the exhaust on Papaw today. Nothing fancy, manifolds and 2” pipe with Cherry Bomb Turbo mufflers. I have never been very good at welding exhaust pipes with a MiG welder. I usually ended up with more holes, lots of cursing and welding it together with a Torch and welding rod. (Traditional?) Little Truckdoctor came over, looked at what I was doing, fetched his gloves and Mask, and went to town. Amazing. He had maybe 3 small holes which he quickly fixed and I’m just tickled ****less. I know who is doing the sheet metal work on our next project! The exhaust sounds great, and now on to the front brakes and master cylinder!
