I’d probably stick with the old, depending on how old. Nothing with flat tappets is getting better.

The first redneck body puller didn't work. It just pulled the vehicles together and flexed the suspensions.

I had to rig up a fixture that sat inside the trunk. Strapped it to the winch bumper for insurance. It kept the winch from tearing out of the wood.

That reminds me of using the power pole out front of my shop and a wrecker pulling on the car we were trying to get into shape.

So good. Necessity is the mother of invention.

  9. This may be a stupid question but where or how do you get the little chrome ring on the wheel That surrounds the lug nuts? I have seen this treatment a few times and I really like it It. feels very early '60s or late '50s in the looks department.

    figuring belt lengths
I had some 2" x 1/8" rubber strip, cut a couple to the available belt lengths.
    and ordered one up.
I'm getting ahead of myself here,
the engine is an unknown core right now,
I only went as deep as pulling the heads and dropping the pan, so far it looks like a good candidate, I won't know for sure until it's in for machine work,
but it's making pretty good garage art right now.

    got creative.
The center one is stripped. I’ll either leave it and flush from the front or weld a nut on it

I always give those a good smack with a heavy hammer before I try to remove them.

I didn’t need another project. But it is for my grandson and I am trying to save him from a Toyota so I bought a 65 Corvair for him. A friend of mine had it…it didn’t look bad. I got it to my garage and up on the lift to find this kind of high performance work. Dryer vent is a nice touch

Been working on Tempest speedo ***y. The 62 bezel is plastic which is usually destroyed by UV. The 61 bezel is pot metal but getting really hard to find. I finally got one awhile back and took 3 tries to match the dark brown color but I think it's close enough now. 20250228_174641.jpg IMG_20250228_174844.jpg 20250228_174649.jpg

I drove a airvair for a daily driver for many years. I would go with the 65 and newer model, they are much better drivers.

Over the last couple weeks I have been putting together a test stand from a wide stance engine stand. I made a slip in frame to carry the radiator and a control panel with mechanical oil and temp guages and a tach. The adjustable supports were from old frame table parts with all thread adjusters to carry the load at the motor mounts.
I had picked up a number of Aluminum Buick 215 engines in various states of dis***embly and put one together from the pile and started it today. I used an adjustable link belt to drive the water pump since there was no alternator. The belt can be shortened until it is tight enough to just slip over the pulleys. It worked great.
I expect to build at least two more engines from the pile since I ended up with two re ground cranks that do not appear to have ever been installed and several other engines that I have never heard run including the V8 60, a 350 SBC and a Rover which is also a 215.
