Technical What are you working on?

  1. Took advantage of another nice day to re-***emble the hotrod and started it up to see if the trans still leaks.
    It does. Damn!
    Oh, and also the engine drain plug continues to leak even after I bought a new drain plug. The black plastic washer that was supposed to seal and prevent the new plug from leaking broke when I tightened it. I'll solve that by finding a nylon or hard rubber washer. I did replace the O-rings on the Holley's transfer tube. That no longer leaks but the accelerator pump does leak now.
    I'm most of the way through dis***embly again and should have it out by later this week. I'll check the torque on the pump bolts one more time, inspect the new seal, the torque converter and the transmission case itself looking for cracks that I may have overlooked. If I can't find the obvious, I'll take it to a transmission shop I trust and let them have at it. I was thinking there should be some way of pressurizing the transmission to see where the leaking is coming from but I don't know how to do that. I might try to cobble up something to pressurize the torque converter as I saw an example of that sometime in the last few months on the HAMB. That will help determine if there's a crack or leak in the converter.
