Technical What are you working on?

Still working on bringing this one back to life. Just cleaned 15 years of mouse nest out of the sagging headliner. Now I need someone who can do interior work in the Seattle area to help.

I’m still making progress on the V8 Vair. I’m changing style while doing this. I pulled the valve covers for cleaning and painting.
Several years ago, I over paid for a cool set of valve covers for SBC. They came in boxes, still sealed with GM labels on the box. Of course I took them out and yes threw away the boxes. Today when I removed them, I snapped this picture. They are 9 fin, no name covers look at the names inside. GM packaged and sold Mickey Thompson parts……very cool

 

Travel trailer prep and camping over with. Got the bed back on and only one clearance issue surfaced. The fuel line coming out of the tank won’t clear beds frame work. No biggy to make a new one. Only about 12” long. This is what I was really looking forward to getting around to wrapping up.

 

Here's hoping that the mice didn't rot away the top of the rear window frame. A friend was restoring a '48 F-1 that had been in storage for many years and had to go to a boneyard to cut the rear window sheet metal surround from a donor truck because of the rot/rust. Apparently mice urine is very corrosive.

Just started on a '52 Ford F1. Love the fat fender look. Right now working on a few items to p*** Virginia inspection rules. Minor things, like speedo that works, non-leaky exhaust, working parking brake.... It was an in the works project that I couldn't p*** up. Seller even offered to deliver!

 

Picked up my ‘55 Catalina from the upholstery shop today, after having dropped it off last fall. After figuring out a no spark issue, I was on my way home. Excited to have it back and drive the tread off the tires on this thing! Took a short video-

 

That interior turned out great !!!

 

I really like this car. No wonder '55 Chevy's never did anything for me.

Replaced the 40 Ford clock for a tach.

 

What do you treat the wood with for longevity? Spar varnish? Something else? I've seen the kits in different species of wood. Haven't decided which to use. I just bought my '52 and it had plywood with the metal strips to "look" right. Doesn't.

Strange thing is happening when I try to post image . It has been saying to big and not allowing me to post . Hasn’t ever done this in the past with any images . Any ideas on what I’m doing incorrectly ?

Been prepping My '39 Willys for the 6 hour drive to Bowling Green. New set of tires didn't fix a persistent vibration, and I checked those for runout. I read somewhere here a guy put his drums on bearings with light oil and no seal to find an out of balance condition by hand spinning and marking stop points. So I gave it a shot. After lots of messing around, I learned that both rear drums were out, one by a lot. So I drilled lightening holes a few at a time until they would spin test to random stopping points. I put it all back together and went for a drive. Holy cow! What a difference.

 

Quick question
I am trying to remember which side the lead off of the capacitor goes to. I believe it slides into the plug on the black and white side.
It doesn’t show up on my schematic.
I may be overlooking it.

Spending a lot of time trying to make an offshore grill shell, aftermarket frame, sketchy gl***body, Dan Fink hinges and a Rootlieb hood all work together. Looks like a triangular addition will be need to line everything up.
It dawned on me earlier that the only parts from a major auto manufacturer were the transmission and minivan seat. Even the engine (Blueprint) is repro.

Making a little bit of progress. I put Ethan under the dash.

 

I would have pulled that steering wheel before I started that project. Good to see the son evolved.

 

Tiger trans is now a 2.78 low gear . Detents in a Top Loader are the worst part of the job .

 

Pretty much done inside the car except hooking up the steering column. Ethan is hooking up the wiper motor and ballast resistor. Then the dash harness is done. I’m going to get pizza and we are going to watch the fights

 

And take the seats out. That last pic made my sciatica act up.
