Plasma Cutter is a great to own

 

Hoping this engine I dragged home is a good one for a heart transplant for the ‘52 Buick Special Riviera. I’ll dig into it when time allows. Also doing a complete brake system replacement. I had a donor car for the engine and transmission but it became the one I posted in the custom Buick thread. This project has been on mothballs way too long.

 

went to the grocery store in the Edsel, didn't get too far. There's something wrong with the fuel system, I haven't figured it out yet. But since my wife watches so many shows about driving old cars, she suggested I fix it this way to get home, and of course it worked.

I've used that method a time or two myself.

 

I had a Bud ,drove his A sedan for years on 2 5 gallon plastic gas cans sitting in rear seat area . Safety first is the only way !

 

I drove my 56 with a gas tank on the p***enger floor all the way from Hersey PA to Michigan- made it- no smoking....

Lots of work on the G.P. today, I switched from the hysterical plate to the year plate that I picked up in the swap meet at the Pontiac Nationals over last weekend!

Got the Hurst finally working on the M21 turned out that the 69 and later the 3,4 arm faces in not out everything works like it should. Measured the hydraulic though out bearing won't need to shim.

 

Man that thing is really looking good Dan!

I promised my SIL I would fix her car this summer…so I made good. Hood was peeling after a rock chip. I stripped the hood with a razor blade and heat gun. DA’d the primer off. Epoxy primer, then base (white), Pearl and clear coat. Did the front bumper while I was at it as it was rock chipped and parking lot damaged.

My first Pearl. You never forget your first time.

I was at a cruise-in the other day and a nice young Flathead owner noticed my oil breather cap was nearly off…again! He said he has the same one (OTB Gear) and he made a spring to go over top to secure it. I had some time on my hands today while waiting for some o-rings to fix my pressure washer so I can clean my shop after a recent paint job, so I came up with a fix for that breather cap.

I had some chrome bales from a GM master cylinder lying around and a piece of copper s**** from a house project so I got creative.


The ribs in the cap made a perfect place for the bale to ride. The copper plate is cut to mimic the breather but with two tabs that I carefully designed do the cap would not sit cattywampus on my Flathead. Had to knock out a gasket as the old one didn’t come off in one piece.


shouldn’t come off now. Fun little project. To R&R the cap you just have to rotate the cap slightly and walk the bale on and off.

Now, back to garage cleaning.

Blazing hot here in Wisconsin yesterday, by Wisconsin standards anyway. Figured I’d work in the cool shop.
Getting rattles and clunks from the back of the ‘55 Catalina occasionally, as well as the drivers side sitting lower than the p***enger by a little over 1/2”, I crawled under to look it over.
Looks like all the spring eye bushings and shackle to frame are shot. Now a rear suspension tear down planned for the offseason. Looks like parts are still available- bonus.

 

Today was the last load out of Rodney's shop in Springfield.
Rodney was killed in an accident and had several people's projects going at his shop. I feel for the people with these cars in different stages of rebuild. This could be a opportunity for someone to get into rebuilding these old X frame cars. Rodney had a lot of purpose built fixtures to do these cars.

This is something I could do but am finally enjoying retirement and now only working on my cars with an occasional helping of friends.

 

Replacing all the tie rod end, ball joint etc boots, also installing poly bushings. I did find a bad pitman arm, lower ball joint drivers side, upper ball joint p*** side. Pretty much ruined the pitman arm puller, it spread and the threads are getting bad. Made a cut in line with the splines - nothing made a cut about 90* from first cut nothing. Pounded wedges in the cuts and the pie shaped piece popped still wouldn’t budge. Really hard to get to but I made another slice about 180 from the first one finally it came about 1/2 way off it broke in two. Oh I installed the puller last night torqued up and sprayed with kroil, usually works NOT this time. Got the drivers side stuff painted waiting on ball joints and will install bushings and boots tomorrow and paint p*** side stuff.

I had a steering box that wouldn't give up the pitman arm one time. It was a fail had to get another to move on.

 

Yeh they can be a bear, this is worst I’ve ever had.

been in the rafters for 40 years. We have a grandson now. So he will have the coolest ride on the block ! Me with my wheels.
