So, I haven't received the correct cam yet, but appears it will ship next day air to me by Friday. So, hoping I can do the swap this weekend and get the engine back in early next week. Knowing that errors do occur (we are all human), I do appreciate them jumping through hoops to grind another cam for me in a few days compared to the few weeks it took with normal lead time. More to come, but seems better than what I was thinking Saturday. :D

I hate to paint. Dash with the windshield in is the worst. 353678786_6674676675889895_7660736218725793813_n.jpg 353012741_6674676122556617_9081177941250462902_n.jpg

Wow that was a long time ago, I’m surprised you remember lol. Yea the dash was a huge PITA but I got it done and I’m very happy with the results. The heater was ok but I also had to lay a few patches on it.

Picked up another lathe, which I really don't need....was hoping to use it to replace my well worn lathe, but it's different enough that I don't think that's going to work out. This one was made in 1935, but it's the cheap version of the South Bend 9". Not much wear on this one, it's mostly complete with tooling. Came with the countershaft assembly and motor, but they were not set up right. Also got the bench, which someone made a long time ago.

  12. And the compound is set at 29.5 degrees for thread cutting. You get any extra belts? Parts are still available for the old SB lathes.

The garage foundation and roof was square but they left a section open for patio crap. Closed that and picked up another bay. 600 square foot garage now. The next move is running 220v and a 50000btu gas heater.. capable of heating 1000 sq ft , work this winter in a Speedo..

The compound was set about 45 degrees, I moved it to some random place around 30ish degrees. I haven't cleaned off the scale yet so I can set it to 29.5. It came with a neat thread cutting tool, too.

The belt drive system is not set up right, it had a V belt running on the spindle cone that takes flat belts. And a can of belt dressing nearby, to try to make the belt stick, I suppose. I need to get a proper flat belt cone for the countershaft, and a flat belt for it. And redo the mount for the countershaft and motor.

I’m aware. That’s how I learned in trade school…. using a traditional HSS hand ground tool.

I still use the old lantern type tool post and the associated tool holders, and grind the cutters from HSS by hand. No need for me to go modern on any of this stuff, I'm retired.

Getting the truck ready for Back to the 50’s Weekend. I have been driving it a lot so the truck was in need of a serious cleaning. I gave it a bath, a fresh coat of wax and detailed the engine compartment. I still need to do the windows, vacuum the carpet and wipe down the chrome but I can knock that out after work…
