Was removing alarm system from the 57 Chevy earlier today. Never liked it (in car when I bought it) after it hick up’d on me once and couldn’t start the car miles from home. Speaking of home. Had to stop pulling wires when father in law showed up at the door from kitchen with no clothing on. Oh well, back to day care job lol.

9 days of 8 to 10 hours a day after that post, I'm still doing body work! I think I hate it even more now...

Mix it up, spread it out, let it set up too long so it sands hard, then sand off too much. Repeat.

I'm almost to the final level of the body work event schedule for me: Make the damn thing one color, I don't care what it looks like! I'm OK if it looks pretty good from 20' away as I'm going past you @ 30 mph...

I'm nearing the last round of filler on the front nose piece. Hopefully that will be "done" tomorrow. Then I will see when my buddy has time to cover it with high build primmer. The DA after that will tell me how close I really am.

Body work still sucks! I hate it!

    Are we having fun yet?

Hang in there Gene, can we talk you into some high build primer and a paint gun. So much easier to sand than bodyfiller.

Trying to find my go/no go feeler gauges so I can set the ring gaps on my 283. I know just where they were,

Been there, done that. I already own a paint gun, and a compressor that can do the job. I have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt I can paint the very best runs in existence onto anything at an astounding rate (you should have seen the last car I spray painted, or maybe its better you didn't! LOL!) Sanding out the quantity and quality of the runs I can put into a high build primmer spray job is just about as bad as sanding body filler. Spraying anything related to paint is not something I should be doing very much The body filler I'm using doesn't sand too bad, if I start when its ready instead of waiting until it get really hard.

I'll hang in there until it has shinny paint on it (as long as I don't have to spray that paint), because I'm too cheap to pay someone to do it for me. My buddy paints cars, I am a retired welder. I traded welding time for him spraying the primmer and paint. He was willing to trade for the body work as well, but I didn't want to get into that big of a welding project.

I think I should have the body filler part done tomorrow.
I've been saying that for 2 weeks now.... One of these days I'll be right!

Some days are more fun then other days. Mine will get much better after the truck is one color.

I am working on two fenders, radiator support and grille surround from a 1940 Chevy truck.

They were all in a body shop that burned down, and the building fell on them when it collapsed.

I took it all back to bare metal, and found bodywork that previously done very, very poorly.

    I am fixing all of that. It's a slow-go.

'47 Buick Sedanette. Trying to make everything (under floor brake system, trans lines, radiator hoses, fuel lines, etc) fit around a 500 Cadillac. For a car that huge, you would think there would be plenty of room. Nope.

Drove 13 miles to town to buy another set of feeler gauges. Asked the kid behind the counter where they were. He sends me to the aisle with the oil pressure and water temp gauges. :( Went to the tool aisle, got the feeler gauges. :) At checkout, I refrained from telling him what a total dumbass he is. Got back home, ring gaps are good. :) Started to put rings on pistons, can't locate my ring expander pliers. :( Just as well, the machine shop that supplied rings and bearings sent bearings for a 250 Chevy six cylinder instead of 283 and they're closed today.:( Decided to install crank. Rear main seal package directions call for small dab of silicone sealer " next to but not touching new seal ", silicone sealer not in drawer. :( Look everywhere, not to be found. :( Go in house for a beer, realize I'm down to a six pack. :( While I'm making my beer run, I might as well stop by the parts house.;)

Well, I was working on an old Coke machine a couple weeks ago and had my fingers where they shouldn't be, ended up getting a really nice jolt. It took me about 10 seconds to let go, and when I finally got broke loose, I tore my hand up pretty good. So, while I've been waiting to heal up, I've been working on some smaller projects. I just finished this one today. I already posted it elsewhere, so forgive me if you've seen it already IMG_20220719_232133.jpg IMG_20220730_122829.jpg

Yesterday afternoon, before I could make the beer run/parts house trip, the wife finds me a project that had to be done right then. Postponed trip to this morning. Checked my list and double checked my tools. Find out that my 50-year-old ring compressor is broke. It's Sunday morning and too early for beer sales so I get underway for the parts house. Their tool aisle has two different styles of ring compressors and no piston ring pliers but, they do have black silicone sealer. No one in this town has ring pliers. Unbelievable! Half a mile out of town on the way home and the wife calls with a list of stuff that can only be gotten at Wally World, the place that I absolutely detest and her list is like going on a scavenger hunt. I think I've mentioned before that the wife and I are about to hit our 54th anniversary. I'm still waiting to see how this marriage is going to work out. Right now, it's not too promising. ;)

Brewing beer today, needed ice. Grabbed the Camino to make the run, noticed the steering wheel moving up and down. Upper column bearing came apart-again. Fixed it about a year ago. Took it apart and fixed it better this time with the wife's help, I held it on the socket while she bent the flange over with a hammer. Only hit my fingers a few times.

Also realized I have a 283, 4speed and a 9 inch in the shed, but no car to put it in.
