Is that the Vito engine or something you're doing for another project?

Nope , Vito's engine is on the other side of the garage, I'm just building this one for the hell of it:p gonna be a vintage looking engine with some balls. I didn't want to pull the Z28 manifold off my daily so I took a performer rpm , which flows better anyway to work today. I ground off the lettering and jigged it up in the mill and bored the oil fill hole. Also ground off the square made in USA pad . will glass bead it tomorrow

I put the oil fill tube in one of these manifolds on my 58 Chevy 283 a while back but didn’t go to the effort of getting rid of the other things. Seems like you are an overachiever. :D Should look much better.

Car hauler fenders. Got the backs welded in today then shot them with some epoxy primer. Will have to grind the primer back where they get welded to the trailer but I was teaching myself how to set up the HVLP gun. Turned out pretty good for a couple of trailer fenders. 20230711_210515.jpg 20230711_210521.jpg 20230711_210528.jpg 20230711_210536.jpg 20230711_210551.jpg

Looks good Robin and is exactly what I need to do to my trailer sometime. My poor fenders look pretty sad after almost 30 years of use dragging junk old cars out of pastures, etc. :(

And, since I am commenting on everyone else’s stuff I guess I could talk about what I am working on. After being out of town for most of the past two weeks, I haven’t accomplished much other than more work on kids vehicles trying to keep some going and get others ready to sell. The only thing I have done related to my projects is pick up the 331 Caddy engine for my 40 Merc project out in New Mexico last week. Oh, also not sure I ever finished the story of the cam swap in the blown BBC, but it worked out perfect. Engine runs better than it has in a long time.

Buttoning up wagon with fuel tank bracket updates. Pulled vintage traction bars, moved springs to stock outboard location, added Caltracs, hoping to improve 60ft. Might run RADIRs again, have not used since first US PIE CRUST race.

  13. 3 out of 8 still leaking, thought maybe they were the ones with the old gaskets so I put new thicker white nylon gaskets on and still leak, driving me bat shit crazy.

Transmission line is still on the rag after cleaning the threads on both, inspecting and teflon tape on the fitting.
Tomorrow I'll put a test line in to see if it's my line or the radiator itself, which I'm hoping it isn't.

I did let it run long enough to set the timing and cut a half turn out of the 1 1/2 out mixture screws, between the timing being off and the heavy mix, it black clouded me out of the garage lol
I'll give that more adjustment tomorrow as well, but it did sound pretty nice.

Maybe try the paper gaskets? Iv'e had issues with the white nylon ones in the past ....The black nylon ones in the the kits seem to work.

  15. The black are thinner, I tried those too, I looked up the paper ones this afternoon, expensive little boogers

  16. The bolts are the same length as the ones from different carbs, I thought maybe they were bottoming out, then I thought maybe the head was interfering with the bowl stopping it from seating all the way.
I also thought about using some "right stuff" and sticking the gasket to the bolt and screwing them in.

On another forum today we were discussing the fantastic leaking ability of Holleys, vs AFBs. Have fun...

oh, I got my new old lathe running today. Still need to get the drum switch reassembled and installed.

  18. 0709231548a.jpg 0710231736.jpg 103°F this afternoon in the inland empire of so. Cal so I am moving slow but in my seemingly never ending conquest of helping my '31 A pickup beat its cancer diagnosis I did manage to sweat a bit and rough weld in a new door bottom, I will finish weld it when I purchase my outer door skin repair panel that I'm hoping to find one at the Model T swap meet in Long Beach this weekend before I break down and buy a new one from CW Moss or make one from scratch which is probably beyond my pay scale so to speak (although I follow the motto you can't learn if you don't try).
So the driver's door is done and is ready for primer and the passenger door I would say is probably halfway done maybe a little more with this patch panel zapped in with the "hot glue" gun and the 4.5" "power eraser".
I don't mind repairing the cancer/metal work but man is it time consuming... I just keep telling myself the end result will be worth it.

  22. Thanks guys, still needs more carb adjustment, 3 float bowl screws still leaking (ordered the fiber gaskets) and I'll be bending a new trans line today.
Yesterday I put a test piece in there and it didn't leak

I had to take advantage of a window in my wife’s work schedule to run down to the LA house and do some stuff. In between home improvement projects, I’m building a ’29 Tudor sedan for my buddy Phil in the shop down there. We finished rebuilding the flathead and he originally wanted the “as found” look but it didn’t go with new Offy heads and the new intake manifold. So he decided that we should spiff it up. So I masked the hell out of it and painted it red. We also dialed in the trans adapter and got the 5 spd all set up. Next trip, I’ll bolt it into the chassis and maybe fire it up.

Just got back from a road trip to the St Louis area to drop off @atch internal engine parts for his 401 Buick at the machine shop.
