  1. I am sitting reflecting on the fact that my wife bought a car on an online auction….oh how I’ve ruined her…. IMG_5115.png
‘64 thunderbird for parts for the project car we are trying to buy…she decided since the kids all have cars I’ve done that she needed one as well. Hopefully I don’t have an allergic reaction to building a ford…:)

  5. I’ll quote Rachel (my wife) after I read your post to her, “no, no it doesn’t”. She wants coral and is all in on lace panels on the roof

Worked on a stranger's car today at a local cruise in a neighboring town. The guy was pulling away from the curb when something went "bang!" in his steering, and the wheel suddenly got very sloppy!
I was standing very close when I heard it, so offered to assist him if I could. I always carry a tool bag with a good assortment of SAE, metric sockets, end wrenches, etc., to make fixes on the road. I had him work the steering wheel back and forth, and it move over a half turn with no response at the wheels! Looked underneath the front axle and when he turned the wheel the steering box came away from the frame!
It was a cross steer with Vega box, and two of the three bolts had pulled threads from the Vega box! Grade 8 bolts, and the bolts were perfect, but the cast iron box threads weren't. I pulled one bolt, and told him there was an Ace Hardware store 5 blocks up the street where we could get parts to fix it.
We walked up the street as I explained how we could do a permanent fix, and avoid this happening again, and not have to drill out the threads, or tap to 7/16" to fix it. We bought three Grade 8, 3/8" bolts that were 3/4" longer, plus 3 nylock nuts, and 6 washers. Headed back to his car and one at a time replaced the pulled bolts, plus the one good bolt with the longer bolts, using washers on both sides, and a nylock nut on the extended threads.
When I got it done he tried the wheel and said it felt better than before the repair! I think his bolts worked loose and then turning the wheel let the box move which pulled the threads out. Should be great now and the locking nuts should eliminate future issues with loosening.
Now I'm going to modify my steering box the same way tomorrow! Never had one come loose before, but I'm going to make it failsafe before it can fail!

  17. I actually don’t mind the impala lights, I have a ‘61 Chevy parts car with round taillights….hmmmm

Also as long as @Moriarity doesn't tell anyone, I actually like the car, I just have very few Ford parts and know very little about them.

Did I ever mention how much I dislike restorations? Spent most of the morning working on a 53 Pontiac . This thing is all stock with a flathead six and no I didn't build it:) Fired it up for about 30 seconds had no oil pressure... screwed a fitting into the oil galley above the pump and back fed oil into the system to prime the pump and then it had pressure. Then filled the cooling system with water to check for leaks.... had a small seep at one head bolt and when I fired it again it had water coming out of the exhuast:mad: After I shut it off it had a puddle of oil under the rear main. Owner is taking engine back to builder

Yea, that was a little tongue in cheek... Even though I grew up all GM, I actually have a few Ford’s even now. And, I might have been known to be sarcastic at times as well.
