They look good. Even better if it makes people notice you're slowing down.

Started building another straight axle car yesterday which surprises me because I had pretty much got it out of my system a few years ago by building both a Willys and a 55 chevy gasser. But a young coworker really expressed interest in building one. He's a great welder and fabricator but he's only built vintage Harleys to date. Last week he picked a really solid 62 Falcon, so here we go..... 20230729_192533.jpg

Wiper motor. This was last night...I got it put back together, it mostly works, I still need to get the switch slider freed up more.

I got to make a special too. What fun! The PO cut off the power wire, right next to the motor, so I got to install a new wire.

So that’s the little secret. Takes me up to an hour with multiple tries with fat fingers, thumbs and hooked tools plus some words of anger before I get one closed. Then cross my fingers it works vs pinching a wire causing a short.

Don't forget putting it together finally and realizing you've got it clocked 180° out...

A sharpie is your friend. ;) But I’d like to know how you got a wiper motor of the type mention clocked 180 off?

I've been doing all the last minute checks on the 55 for the trip to the Tri Fives next week.
Got the timing set, spare aired up, junk in the trunk cleaned out. All that little crap that has to be done. It went from a crappy driving car to a pleasure to drive after I rebuilt the steering box last month. I haven't pulled the camper with it since, but I do believe it will be just fine. Now it makes me want to fix some leaks and go ahead and change the rear end next. I need a road gear for the old car.

Picked up some floor braces and floor pans for the race car today.
Also worked on a 1960 Cadillac rag top trying to fix a leaking transmission dip stick tube.

All I managed to do was pull these 11" brakes off a 9" galaxy rear end for the falcon project. Also went to look at a rusted , clapped out 55 chevy pickup for some friends, the guy was asking 8 grand....it wasn't worth 500 bucks 20230803_174059.jpg 20230803_174050.jpg

Came home after work and sawed the new style big ford ends off the galaxy housing so I can clean em up and put em in the lathe to true and chamfer them. I will put these on the F100 housing once its narrowed. Also took apart the 3.70 diff . The gears look really good and we will add a posi and put it back together. 20230804_165711.jpg 20230804_165656.jpg

  19. Well it's been almost 2 weeks since I posted the picture of the cancer patch and Now I can show the doors in primer with pretty much all the body work done other then some fine tuning (I want shiny on this car, I might build driver quality rides but i am over primer or "patina", it's time for a nice cheap enamel in obnoxious "Massey Ferguson Red"... Obviously I'm not quite ready to paint yet but it's coming). 0804232210a.jpg 0804232210.jpg

  20. I have the Harbor freight foldable hoist I bought back in 1997ish before I was old enough to buy beer... It was probably one of the first tools I bought as an adult snd it really upped my game.
I would imagine that hoist has probably lifted a hundred different engines literally in and out a various vehicles or off concrete. Not to mention I used it commercially to take apart lube and tune stores all over the Phoenix, Las Vegas and Southern California areas for a year or so (2009ish) to lift all That heavy machinery a shop has like 2 and 4 post lifts, oil containers exc... It has been a wonderful hoist. That being said the RAM is starting to leak and being the it's Chineseium Freight they no longer sell The same style RAM and being Chinese I don't think it's worth rebuilding so I will have to fabri-cobble it.
Somebody told me a few weeks ago that Amazon sells torin brand Rams which are also Chinese but I might buy one if it's got the proper mounting. Anyways
Also I broke a cast wheels on the front of it but I don't think that was the hoist fault as I would take a pry bar slide it underneath the legs and move the hoist left or right with weight on it and one day I got it caught on an expansion joint in the concrete And I snapped the wheel...
The wheel was not available either so I went to industrial metal supply (a metal store here in southern California) and I bought steel disc puck things and I Drilled a hole right through the center a few thousands of an inch wider than the bolt and then I put them on the hoist I have used it this way for months now I think it rolls better lol.
My point is it's a pretty good hoist for what it is and being 26ish years old and abused absolutely heavily by yours truly I would recommend it even though I hate supporting China. Now that being said there is usually a lot of engine hoists in the classified ads you might be able to find one for 25 or 30% of its retail price just an idea.

Finally making some progress on the 302 for the Ranch Wagon now that it has cooled off a bit and I'm adapting to my new meds. Next issue is why the virtually new Motorcraft plugs I took out won't thread back in. Chased the holes in the heads in case any paint from the primer the machinist used was causing interference. Wired brush the plugs. No reason I can see why none of the 8 plugs will start. I'll try a brand new one and see if that changes anything. One step forward and two steps back. eng1.jpg

Do you check the backlash before to take it apart? I do if I plan to reuse a gear set then set them up the same as long as pinion depth isn't changed.

  24. Picked up a 1987 2.5l "Iron Duke" today including the T5 tranny. It came from a Chevy Blazer that had about 60k on the odometer. I'm thinking seriously about putting it my 29 model a coupe. Got it from Facebook Marketplace for a smokin deal.

I have a (non-hamber) friend that used that same drivetrain in his 29 2-dr sedan. He likes it just as much as his high-dollar high-horsepower hot rods. Good choice.

I did not, The guy I bought it from had already pulled the pinion support out but he saved the shim. he also pulled the yoke off to install a new seal. It all looks really good and I will set it up and check it.

I've been installing brakes...now I'm running new lines, the Corvette has a loop from m/c to left front, right front, then rear. I changed it to m/c to tee, one line to back, other to line lock, then front brakes. So much fun making brake lines.
