Technical What are you working on?

Had a good day , scored a bunch of nos chevy parts....steel 350 crank, pink rods, 292 turbo heads and an nos 57 -61 corvette dual point. Good day in my book

 

Great looking project. Hopefully we’ll get to follow along as he gets it back on the road.

 

Washed all the barn dust off the 53 and got it unloaded. Car looks rougher cleaned up than I hoped. Still need to go back and get the seats and engine since the previous owner didn’t have time for us to mess with those when we picked up the car.

 

Guthrie, you might be a little disappointed, but damn! What I see is a super solid starting point, just look at that rocker! Northeast finds are usually missing the bottom few inches.

 

Yea, I’m probably spoiled in this part of the country. It’s not terrible, but there is more rust than it looks like under the Earl Scheib or similar paint job. It also has several hail dents in the roof from what must have been a heck of a hail storm to dent something like it.

Nothing like drilling a new hole in the body lol
When I built the bed I put a 2x2 square tube right behind that panel, the bed floor is dropped down at an angle behind that, battery hold down bolts protruding through, then you have to think about what the tire is going to kick up, took 2 days to figure out the location of that hole.
I think I'm going to have to shorten that handle, still determining how much handle I want sticking out when it's on/off and ease of using, which could be good/bad. I don't want to be at a cruise night and have it sticking out past the bumper but also want it easily accessible to shut off incase of an emergency.

 

I got the cruise working better on the Corvette, the new bracket helped some, but it still had a slow surge. I played with the switch settings, and now it seems to be good.

But at the same time, I discovered the heater core sprung a leak. It's coming out the edge of the box, not where the hoses are. I ordered a new core, I get to change that next week I guess.

I imagine that core isn't easy to change?

Having a new drive shaft made for the coupe. There is only one drive shaft shop near me, 8 miles away. The owner does them himself and is the best around central Pa. He told me it should be done in about a week .

 

I forgot to mention that my parts haul included 2 sets of small journal sbc rods, one set polished beams with stock bolts one set not polished with arp bolts they both appear to be balanced. If any of you are building an early motor they are yours for the price of shipping

It's not bad, aside from dumping coolant into the pass compartment when disconnecting the hoses.

Why is it that the hose's never leak on the outside of the firewall... Everything has to leak on the carpet... Murphy's Law, I suppose...

 

With judicious application of some compressed air it should blow most of the coolant out of the heater core before removing it.

 

There’s more to the Shop Vac @Lloyd's paint & glass than what I’m saying.

 

Picked up a 1971 virgin 350 4 bolt to stuff all the nos goodies in It will go in something pre 65 though..

 

That one dirty “virgin”.

 

Seasoned..........Start looking for a 63 Nova...

 

I'm thinking the gang has something stashed in the corner for that virgin

 

It's always nice busting open a factory engine ..All the right bolts ,clips , etc... even the plastic timing chain gear

I have a FED it could go in.

 

Mocked up and mounted the rear fenders for the first time. Gas tank cover still needs some work.

 

Your brain would explode if it didn't have a Hemi in it....

 

I wish. Sitting the father in-law get’s more challenging as time goes by.
