I'm working on what was supposed to be a quick king pin swap that quickly turned into king pins, axle repair, wheel cylinders, brake hoses, wheel stud repair and a height adjustment.... so far.

Tore apart the "nasty" looking 350 this afternoon... That thing was freakin cherry inside! Still had hone marks and the plastic cam gear had very little wear! Lifters pulled out with no effort. Probably woulda done 50,000 more miles:D Off to the machine shop tomorrow , bore .030 zero deck and stuff all that NOS chevy hi po stuff in it.

The big block is ready to start reassembling for the 2nd time. The builder that did the machine work left everything very dirty with dirt ground into the new rod bearings, so we had to take it apart and hone the lifter bores, drill the extra water passages, coat the lifter valley and clean out the trash left in the block order a new set of rod bearings sized to fit properly. It was assembled with standard bearings, had to order 4 stdx bearings to get the right clearances.

Dropped off the 350 block at the machine shop came home and ground on the turbo heads for a couple of hours taking out all the sharp edges and gasket matching em. I pretty sure grinding on cast iron heads is also becoming a thing of the past...

Finished up all the welding and painting on the 56 Chevy frame that can be done before the body goes back on, then Ahron will start on welding in the cage.

Look like rear axle will attempt to move on an arc from front spring eye, and on a different arc from ladder bars.

Hoping the anti-roll bar will keep the car square and straight off the line, take some of the twist stress off the ladder bars.

    Thank You GuyW,

Will find out how good of a job, when we find out how straight it goes, and how it hooks.

I helped my friend Butch put one on his Willys , the truck has ladder bars and would twist pretty hard on launch. The bar helped tremendously.

  19. I’m cleaning up the shop in preparation for a 1933 Ford ZZ Top replica to arrive. A local guy bought it a year or so ago and at the end last year it started running very poorly. As in it will barely pull itself. Whoever built it used a Holley Pro-Jection 4 on it. The owner is a good friend of my brother and nephew, and my nephew asked me about how to fix it. That’s easy, says I, it obviously needs a nice Holley 4 barrel. According to the owner, who allegedly ran the numbers, it’s a 400 Small Block Chevrolet. We will see. I do know it’s got angle plug heads and a Vic Jr. intake. He bought a new 3310 for it. This is what I get for shooting my mouth off. I do know the chassis is strictly O/T so you won’t see that. Or the wheels. Hopefully it will be more fun than fixing filthy old diesel’s. Maybe between this and Lloyd’s Trukus, it will motivate my big ass to work on my 50.

20240203_130634.jpg Got the crate 350 , t400 and gear vendors all bolted up and installed in the AD chassis.

  22. Take a piece of cardboard and make a list of jobs that need to be done on your truck brother. No matter how small the task. Cross it off when you do it. Makes things start moving along. And gives you milestones. That's how I do everything. I make a goal sheet for my week. I don't put stuff like "get red car done"... I'll put down "prep right fender and door on red car", "remove glass from blue truck", "weld patch in Pontiac quarter panel".... it's like having a boss to motivate me lol

I've been trying to shine up a pair of staggered bolt Cal Customs. I hope to put them on the 283 engine they're setting on. The machine shop is backed up a couple of months.

  25. Those are looking good! I came real close to buying a set of those yesterday at a swap meet but don’t have anything that staggered pattern ones will fit on right now.

Car was built in 64 and raced into the early 70's it steers like a tank but thats how it was built and how it will stay.
