Traditional meets practicality....They look awesome though...Been seeing Man A Free direct ports for Big Blocks lately....

  3. That line of thinking makes perfect sense to me. I have seen too many cool valve covers like early Cal Customs or early Vette that someone butchered a hole in for ventilation or the same to an intake. Even with those being a little newer, the whole look works together.

  4. I'm travelling 4 hours Thursday to pick up a 3.08 rearend for my c-10 to swap out my 4.11 current one. Bolt-in and cheap. Maybe with longer legs and a torquey 355 I can float that puppy down to the next Lloyd's Fest.

I keep my eye open for butchered Vette covers, that way I dont feel bad about further mods. 33058.jpeg

I just drilled a hole in the back of the block and added a baffle and a fitting. Hard to do with the engine finished and in the car though. Like Guthriesmith said, it looks great, I was just bust in’ yer balls….
I like the breathers on Lumpy’s valve covers.

  8. I didn't feel bad about adding breathers to these and still like my placement of the breathers, not abstrusive and you still get the effect of the "corvette" valve cover.

I wonder how they'll do with oil mist? Hopefully well enough baffled

  10. You'd still have the oil fill tube breather, I ran them on the t-bucket's old motor without issues.
I did put the old school wrist sweatbands on the new engine with the CalCustom valve covers

Brading, thanks for the links. Some good info there.

  12. Ok, so you guys did bring up a good point about looking for butchered valve covers to get cheap. I retract my earlier statement and am reminded of some early Cal Custom ones I had that someone put drain pipe in to add fill and breather points. They worked well and still looked good.

  13. I want a 6 lug. I have the 6 lug pattern chrome vette rally wheels. What year is it? I need the 67-70.5 model for the spacing to be exactly right and trailing arms with coils, not leaf sprung.

  14. I have an early set of no breather/oil fill hole M/T's that some nimrod drilled a big hole in the flat on one of them, terrible tragedy.
    The ones under the window

I've bought some rough valve covers in the past to either get the breathers from or knew I had breathers to cover someone's hack job of adding breathers.
Those M/T's, I thought I had a piece of another M/T that I could weld in the hole but I couldn't find it.

Wonder if anyone makes an adapter so I can run a set of Ford valve covers on my 283. Paint it all blue and nobody would know the difference, maybe;). I FOUND THEM

  16. Hey Alan, tell people your 283 is a Y Block 292, most people would believe it because of the rear mounted distributor on a Y!

  23. You could always make the little 283 look like a flathead, probably the best running flathead ever

Went out in the Garage this afternoon and worked on the Dirty Virgin a little... Had a big ass needle shoved in my neck yesterday and the doc said to stay outa the garage for a bit. I figured chasing a few threads wasn't gunna hurt anything.
