I know an opinion thread is an easy way to start a **** storm, but I thought I would ask anyway understanding that everyone has their own opinion.

I have a short bed unibody Ford that I would like to make a mild custom out of. I wasn't really thinking of a bumper on the ground skirted taildragger but a slight nose high stance.

The front has already had a leaf or two taken out and sits pretty low and I will be removing the 6 and putting a V8 in it so it could squat it a little more. I was thinking of flipping the rear axle and I'm sure that would leave me with the nose high stance.

What do y'all think of nose high pickups? I thought it might look cool with the body lines sloping down the way they do but I'm not completely sold on the look. Just seeking some input, pros and cons or ideas I haven't thought of.

The Cragars will be replaced by steelies and flames will be coming off.

I think trucks can look really cool with a little bit of a "nose up" stance. I had a '60 F100 and I intentionally lowered it 1" more in the back.

I tend to like all my cars/trucks close to level in their stance. But that's just me.

No. It's a truck. It will squat in the rear when used as a truck. A little forward rake is good. YMMV

a little bit of a nose up stance would look good. but not to much.

I don't like the look either on most trucks. I have seen a few that do pull it off, i think it looks better on earlier bubble fendered trucks, non fleet side...imo

I'm in the tail-high camp. Maybe this is dumb, but why not rig something so you can add a couple hundred pounds at the tail so you can alternate? Maybe even add weights to the spare?

Question directed to those who have flipped the axle. Judging from my picture, how close to level or beyond level would flipping put me? There is a pretty good rake forward, granted there is quite a bit of rubber rake there that won't be when current tire combo is gone.

Thought has crossed my mind...using one leaf and putting bags on the rear only. Using the leaf for axle location only.

My thoughts on tail draggers are (problems) Your gona drag it and damage some thing. I built a 29 Ford Roadster here and eventually sold it cause I kept taking out the oil pan and she was not that low. My 29 Pk Up is high and dry. My 3 cents. Iceman

This always looked a little awkward to me on a pick up. You cant go wrong with a nice rake, plus you can use it as a truck.

I believe a truck should be usable as a truck. Friends of mine go to cruises all the time. We caravan and the trucks carry the BBQ, chairs, ice chests and EZ-ups. These trucks are lowered but sit level. One year, one of the guys broke down in his Chevy coupe. The situation was saved when one of the trucks rented a U-haul transporter and hauled the coupe home.

A nose up truck just looks like it's hauling some thing heavy, not cool.
An axle flip will get you down about 5 inches MINIMUM, so make sure you want that much before the cutting and welding starts.

This is something that has gotten to me lately. I see alot of cool trucks that I like but at the same time I'm one of those don't care for show only vehicles. I like a truck to be alittle dirty, real and haul something every now and then. Old or new trucks should have a sense of utility. Even custom trucks from the past still got used. Maybe not the whole lot but most did. Some hauled the race car, pushed the race car or carried some parts. I dig a custom truck more than a car. I'm an exception to the crowd. I like cars but trucks are cooler and when they are ridin low and haulin they are just that much cooler.

Bagging it is easy, add 10 bags of cement and remove or add more till you get ther right look.

Yeah... looks too much like they're 'loaded'. My son's '55 F100 is identical to mine, except he flipped the rear pads & springs...Wasn't long before he got tire sizes correct, and upped the rear slightly.
Front is nice and low, too. IT'S RAKED.

i agree... i think the "bubbled fendered" trucks look great as tail draggers... your style truck looks great lowered evenly.. just my opinion :)

  29. bags are for groceries!!! and for the record.... nose down. Taildraggers are cool on the 50's style trucks. at least if you drop the front down your ride will still be functional. If you drop the tail and load up a flathead for that coupe your building your gonna leave your bumper in you hommies driveway on the way out!!

I remember seeing tail dragging lowrider trucks in San Pedro when I lived in the projects, circa '53 and earlier.
Even when I was just 5 years old I thought they looked like/reminded me of a toddler dragging around a ****-full diaper.
