When I first found and bought my 48. I thought I could live with a four door. Now I find I can't get motivated to do any work on the body. I have repaired and primed all the front sheet metal and even the trunk lid. Now I am thinking about another body. My question is what other Ford body style and year will bolt to my frame?
Pretty sure the Tudor version of what you have will fit. Same wheel base I think, correct me if I'm wrong here guys. Not sure about a coupe though.
you could find the back half of a business coupe 41-48? and weld it on behind your front doors... chopping it in the process they make nice customs Zach
Any 42-48 body will work, and 41 will also work, though they are slightly different and may not be a direct "bolt up"
What does that mean. Are they the same length? Will any Ford body style 42-48 bolt to my four door frame with no major changes. I would like to keep my front fenders and hood.
The problem with that is I want everything but the two extra doors. Find me a 47-48 Ford two door with a loaded early Cad. engine. 39 box, no rest with just a little body work left.

I might be mistaken, but I believe a 59 chevy is a bolt on for your car, especially when using the Ford's front sheetmetal.
If you use a 2 door sedan shell you can also re-use your rear fenders and trunklid. I would think a 2 door sedan shell with doors could be bought pretty cheaply. You could also convert your 4 door using a 2 door sedan donor if the 2 door donor car turns out to be really rusty, but sounds like you're not into that type of work.
You know that might be my best option. I had thought of that. If I found a two door sedan body with a bad floor I could just cut the 4 door body at the floorboards and weld in the 2 door.
I'd find a rusty sedan delivery body. Cut the cowl off at the posts, and use that as well as the front doors and floor to repair the delivery.
Chop it at the cowl and build a woodie. I've got a really rough '48 coupe that's slated to be the doner for that project. -Bigchief.
Remember when I said you were crazier than a***** house mouse? Multiply that by 2, don't you dare***** that car up!
shorten it by cutting 2' out of each side and weld the doors into one piece, section it 6", chop the top 3", take out the posts and the wind wing, pancake the hood, channel it 8", use a flattie with a c-4 I remember one like that on the cover of Rod and Custom in the mid 60's (??)
All 41-48 Fords or Mercurys passenger cars (all the Mercury's extra length is in front of the firewall)... taking the body off the frame is not that big of a deal, it's al the little bits and pieces and wiring...
I wonder if it could be done the way this '55 Chevy was done. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=350312 Retaining the original 4 door roof, floors, windshield, dash, firewall, virtually everything, you wouldn't even have to take the body off the frame. The roofline should be the same, if you can separate the door structures at the drip rail, you should be able to do it. Seems like a lot of sedans around have crushed in roofs from people jumping on them, I would think you could buy a 2 door sedan parts car for $500 that would have doors and quarters you could use. Then part out the rest of the donor car and sell the left over 4 door parts and get all of your money back. Might be a bit labor intensive, but you'd retain everything that's good about the current 4 door car and if you can resell some extra parts it shouldn't cost you anything.
chop it!!it would look sooo coool!! and stick a blower out the hood....bad****... i've got a 48 dodge 4 door choptop looks nice!!
I've got a 46-8 nice coupe body on a rolling chassis AND/OR I also have a 46-8 convertible body, rough but certainly buildable with your 4dr parts car. PM me for info and pictures. Dave
When talking '46 to '48 Fords, the fordor is the neatest of the bunch! Paint it black, Chrysler wire wheels and you'll have a clone of Billy Paulman's (Bunky) from New Jersey. Give him a call, and he'd probably stripe it for ya!
