Bend a wire on the water pump to radiator make it an L shape. Go to your local auto parts store and look on the rack for one that will work.

Or measure the diameters of the places it has to fit, then measure the length along a nice gentle bend, and get a universal flex hose.

(it's guesswork to know what radiator you have and where you located the engine and how long the water pump is and what else is in the way of the hose, etc)

  4. like squirrel said. Go to NAPA find an oletimer ta hep ya. They make em with different id's on the same hose so rad OD and engine OD can be different. You can also use a piece of hose to make the OD larger and get a hose that fits over that hose in case you have trouble matching , luck

There are different grades of flex hoses, the lighter ones bend more easily (gates "red", as opposed to the heavy duty "green")

Did you check the stock hose for a 56 truck with V8?

    Dayco 70155 for example

I've taken one of those aluminum pre-heater hoses that came on 80s cars that run from the exhaust manifold to the air cleaner and I bend it to shape then take it down to the parts house and say I need a hose this shape with x size on this end and x size on the other. So far I've always got what I need.

I've had good luck with the lower hose from a 65 mustang V8. It fits the small block Chevy in my 32 and the radiator outlet is on right side (looking at it.. passenger side of car)

Some of my notes on possible radiator hose matches. Not saying they will fit but might give you some possibles. The reference to 49-54 Chevy car sounds like a close match.

    - A 64-66 Chevelle, 1966 Ford Fairlane 289 lower hose, lower hose NBH 7286/Gates 20475/Goodyear 60620/Dayco 70368/Parts Master 80074 for a 283, 1.75” ID, 14.5” OAL or a NBH 7341/Gates 20544/Dayco 70470 (tighter bends) for a 396 car with standard cooling seems to fit many broad street rod applications. It fits a small block Chevy to 49-54 Chevy car using the stock downflow radiator pretty well. A little trimming sometimes needed, but it may be as close as you will find in an OEM application.

Or from Horton's, a Cdn Speed Shop:

    - , lower # Gates 20510/Goodyear 60366/NAPA NBH 7347 (61-68 Lincoln)

  13. I used straight hoses on my build. I went with something out of the Summit catalog once I knew the length. Look up Dayco and Allstar. I went with a Dayco. Once you know the part number you might find it locally.

that's what im trying to do have someone tell me this part fits mine distances are similar from rad to pump..my rad is mounted at a slight angle the bottom is 1/2 forward to give a little more room around the front of the engine.if worse comes to worse I can modify the outlet on the rad but that's a lot of bother compared to just changing a hose
