what car did you learn to drive in?

1936 Plymouth flat 6 three on the tree.....11 acre field...I was in heaven at 11 years old....

I learned to drive (legally ) on an old Maverick ('74 , IIRC) - then taught myself to drive stickshift in my 1st car , a '62 MG Midget .

 

My father's '54 Ford. I was 12.

 

I was 13 and my Dad put me behind the wheel of his new 54 Ford Customline with six cylinder and three speed transmision. Today I own a 53 Ford Customline with six cylinder three speed and that is as close to what I learned to drive on as I can get!

 

I learned how to drive in the drivers Ed car, but I learned how to drive a standard in my dads 69 F100.

 

1931 Ford Model A pickup. Still in the family, running, registered, and on the road.

 

A 2020 John Deere Tractor with bailer in tow and a 74 chevy half ton with wagons in tow. Not very HAMB like but you asked.

68 Impala ...what fun to parallel park that beast! I take my power steering in my daily driver for granted. It was lots of fun to park in, and run out of gas in, too! Love those Impalas...

 

I learned to drive when I was 12 or 13 driving my stepfather at the time home from the two taverns he liked to over consume at. Either in his 54 Chev Pickup with deluxe five window cab and hydromatic or my moms 58 Colony Park Mercury wagon.

I could pick up the Detroit AM radio stations in the tavern Parking lot in Susquamish, Wa in the wagon.

 

LOL, a 72 VW bug my dad had. Only stick shift car we had at the time. Took me to San Francisco and said "If you can drive in the city with a stick you'll be able to drive anywhere. To this day I can drive anywhere

 

First car I drove, just like everyone did in my family was a model T. No I'm not that old, just always had a bunch of em around. Learned the stick between a 1961 Nash Metro and a Fiat Spyder.

 

My mom and dad's 1960 chevy four door parkwood wagon. and then my dad's 1950 ford pickup...

That's the car I did my test in; first car I ever drove was a 68 Pontiac Parisienne. I was taken to a shopping mall after hours and turned loose. Unless you count sitting on dad's knee at 4 and steering his 63 mini around a car park.

First truck I ever drove was a 67 Ford F600 on the farm in Virginia. We called her Mighty Ugly.

 

1946 ford truck. Dad took me out a field and said have at it. I was 12 years old. I have been driving for 55 years.

It was my first car in 1979.

 

The first THING I drove was the Cletrack at the age of 10, then Dads 68 Chev PU in circles on the property when I was 12, then moved up to the '44 FORD jeep when I was 13(still on the property), and at 15 on my learners permit was mainly my Dads 52 Merc with a flathead and three on the tree, with Moms 74 Buick and our 73 Riviera thrown in for good measure.

 

69 F350 towtruck. The oldman was pissed off because someone backed into his truck in a parking lot.So he made me hook up a car and back up threw the junkyard.It really ticked me off @ the time, but I can backup any trailer now. Lesson Learned.

 

Old 40 something Ford tractor.I got my ass busted for doing wheelies a couple times, its a wonder I didnt get killed on that thing.

 

My Mom's '65 Rambler Classic 660 station wagon with a 232 cubic inch inline 6, automatic, power steering, power brakes, and an AM radio.

I then learned to drive a stick in Dad's '69 Ford Chateau Club Wagon van which had a 300 cubic inch inline 6, a three on the tree, heavy duty clutch, no power anything, and no radio at all.

Small world... I bought a '53 Customline, with a 215 and 3 speed a few months ago for my new daily.

The car I really learned to drive in was our red Pinto wagon. As soon as I'd had my license for a few months, the old man put me in a '59 Chev 2-1/2T flatbed, with directions to "Rough and Ready Island" (no shit, it's a real place) several hundred miles south of Seattle. That was the first truck I drove.
