Customs What cars had full-width taillights?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Anderson, Apr 4, 2010.

  1. They are just reflectors in the middle though not lamp lenses and likewise the 70/71 Torino GTs I mentioned earlier are reflectors too.

Man, that would take like 6 sets of lights, haha! I'd only be able to use the inner two squares of each light, and that is a LOT of pot metal I couldn't put back together. I like the look though.

Sequencers are absolutely in the plans. I've been planning for years to build custom housings for my stock lights so I could use some, but have been thinking about something "different" lately.

Cool idea, Fidgiter, I've been thinking of doing something similar to my O/T '66 Mustang Fastback; move the gas fill to the rear fender or inside the trunk, and then fill that entire flat rear panel with red plexi, maybe some polished aluminum 1/2 round horizontal trim strips...

I know that the T-bird lights were used on some of the Mustangs, but they're very "recognizable". Somewhere around here I have some vintage red plexi or acrylic flat panel tail light conversions for the 'stang; they eliminate the pot metal 3 lens housing, and sort of contour around either side of the gas fill, but the brake/stop lights are still just in the stock location.

There is just something about full width side-to-side tail lights that says "60's custom" to me. :D

    Later, *****6

Red plexi, and make your own, some electronics guy could make you up some sequencers.
T birds used a motor with contacts in the day, but the Tbird resto houses offer an electronic conversion.
Also you can heat up the plexigl*** ( in an oven ) and bend it pretty easy.

Yep, like I mentioned on page 1, 60's Buicks have a lot of full length light choices.

Yeah...I had an O/T late model Mustang with a sequencer kit on it. I was going to use another one of those.

The plexi would work fine too, thats what I'll have to do anyway for the charger light to make a one piece lens. But I also want a chrome border, and it would be nice to not have to make the whole light housing too.
