Since I started driving in 1962 I have only paid over 1500 for two vehicles. 3656.60 for a new special ordered 69 Cutlass S with a 4 speed in Dec 68 when I came home from Viet Nam and 1600 for a 72 Pinto coupe (one of the deadly ones) in 77 when I needed a car for work. Most of the rest of my cars have shown up as projects, usually on a tow bar or on a trailer.

Current projects started with my original purchase of the 48 in 1973 for 75.00 and driving it home on ragged 16 inch bias tires. The roadster started with a swap meet purchase of a 1919 Buick Cowl 20 years ago and the slow accumulation of parts for a speedster style roadster. The A-V8 ?? no body yet. Started with a collection of parts that accumulated over a period of time and now include an 8 BA and a T5 trans along with a hap hazard batch of pieces stockpiled for the project.

I'm so friggin jealous of all ya'll....it just puts me into tears the sweet stuff you guys find up here. I *do* notice one thing, though....most ALL of you don't live in the Northeast....peeps up here want crazy ass prices for absolute sh*t. I know a guy who sold a rusty ass early 30s Chevy body for $3k!!! I guess I know all the wrong people....which isn't a surprise up in these parts. Damn...gotta get back down south to my homeland...TN.

BTW, where the hell in TN is a stash like that!!?!? Can a TN brotha give you some green to pick up one of those diamonds in the rough? ;)

I bought 2 63 split window corvettes a 67 R/S S/S Camaro 4 spd. 49 Ford Woody on a tube axle. 62 corvette a real 67 Camaro Z/28. All steel 41 Willys coupe a 48 Anglia coupe a 48 Thames a 48 A-40 Austin 64 Comet Cyclone a 65 Comet Caliente. All these cars were either runners or rollers. I've only paid over 1500 for two vehicles in my life. The 69 Cutlass S that I special ordered from Viet Nam in late 68 and the 77 Chev1 ton 4x4 crew cab I bought 20 years ago. Almost every one of my daily drivers since 1973 has been bought needing work before I could drive it.

Like stated earlier in this thread, look everyday, search Craigslist in your area and in your surrounding areas. Drive down different roads all the time and be ready to pounce when you see something. Even if it isn't just what you want get it anyway you can use it to trade or resell to get something you do want.

I've owned over 200 cars since I was 16 and all but a couple dozen were less than $1500. As noted you have to consider when they were bought as a lot of them would go for big $$$$$'s today. The secret yesterday, today, and tomorrow is always be on the lookout and never take the same road to any destination you go to more than twice. Never be afraid to ask, even if you know something might be out of your price range. I've been put on to affordable cars several times when I've stopped to ask about something that obviously was out of my price range.

Like stated earlier - you gotta watch constantly especially in these times. Lots of people are hurting for money and some are scared and just selling because they think now is the time. If I bought every good deal that was under $1500 just on craigslist, I'd have hundreds of cars.

    In the last two years:
    79 chevy crew cab 1ton w/73 454 turbo 400 - $500. Still drive it, runs great

46 stude truck with a big collection of spare parts, two complete engines and trans and the guy threw in a fairly new woodstove - $500

    47 stude truck - $650

59 Boyertown step van, runs. Has ford chassis, 6cyl runs on propane -$350

67 MGB gt - $0 - just had to get it out of the garage it had been stored in.

64 Rambler Classic, v8 ac car. $500 - sold it for $600 w/o doing anything to it.

83 chevy crew cab diesel 4x4 1ton dually -$1500 daily driver for a year now.

82 ford f250 4x4 diesel $600, drove it for 9 months and sold it for $1000.

There's a 63 skylark convert, alum v8 runs, fairly clean looking in the pictures, on CL now for $1500.

    The deals are out there....

I paid $500 for a 1948 Austin A 40 Devon, complete car, no rust (Even surface rust) everything there. Good start for a gasser project, the 401 nailhead should fit nice.

In the early 70s I worked at a gas station on old Rt 66 in New Mexico, I bought a few cars from folks traveling and needed money, bought a 52 Buick for 35.00, ran great, best buy was a 56 Chevy 2 door hardtop for 175.00, had a 327 4 speed built up pretty fast, kept that car for several years and sold it for 2000.00, kick my own azz for that. Back in those days deals were everywhere, bought a 64 Ford convertible with a 390 4 speed for 90.00, chick thought the clutch was bad, I adjusted it and was smoking tires 30 minutes later, could go on and on about deals back then. Well a bit off topic, but bought a nice condition 90 Lincoln for 1000, friends of mine 100 bucks a month, always wanted a nice American highway cruiser for a driver. still had the 302 before the engine shrunk again not too bad. :) lots of aftermarket for that motor, will make a nice sleeper one day.

Damn near ever car I have ever owned . I have bought cars that are running and driven safely on the street for $50 ! And that was in the 1970's . I bough my 1969 Dodge Super Bee in 1975 for $300 ! Yes for $300 and that was on the street ! Had 67,000 miles on it and I drove it and beat the shit out of that car from racing until it had 115,000 miles on it . Body and interior was like new too . i have owned many other great buys of cars like that also over the years . The last great deal on a car I got was this summer when a buddy and I bought a 1950 ford tudor complete . He wanted the engine and trans and I got the car . We spent a whopping $500 for the entire deal and the engine had up grades done to it and came with a 3 speed trans & overdrive to boot ! I got the car for $300 and he got that flathead V8 and trans for $200 .
They are still out there but you need to be in the right place at the right time ! I was very lucky on this deal !
I still see HAMB friendly cars that are complete and running for less than $1500 . I passed up a few this summer . Didn't have enough room to store them .

I have bought a bunch for under that amount. I think the best deal I got was when I bought a 63 Chevy Belair 2 dr sedan factory 327 3 speed posi and wide wheels red on red original owner and drove it home. It was around 1988 ? Bought it for $140.00 :D Ended up giving to my son  He still has it

    Lets see
    62 Vette 327 340 $1500.00
    55 Chevy 2 dr sedan $150.00
    62 Corvair 283 3 spd $1200.00
    64 Chevy pickup $ 700.00
    64 Impala SS $1200.00
    62 Impala factory a/c $1200.00

    I know I am forgetting a few
All of these run and were dailey drivers in the 70s & 80s
