What cars have u bought for under $1500.00?

A year or so ago, got this for $600. Added some junk yard tires and a little time cutting out wires and cleaning out over 50 years of dirt and trash and rats nests... It runs, probably gonna do a little more before i register and drive it.

 

Today at a local show I just bought a 1958 Rambler American for under $1000.00 its a driver and solid. nice paint. Even the interior is nice. Flat head six with an auto. All it needs is carpet. Going to through some nice wheels and tires on it and drive it.

I grabbed the guy as soon as he parked it in the car corral. There were other waiting to talk to him. My girl friend loves the car and was hoping I would not walk away from it.

The 63 Classic on my avatar was $1200, passed on a pair of 62 Classics for $500(rusted cowls), and a 49 Pontiac two door fastback for a $1000. I think they may still be for sale, but that was 3 years back.

 

The body of the rod in my avatar was free....

...but nothing else we did to it was.

 

It's really all relative...I was born in 1950...

In '64 I bought a complete Anglia for $15

In 1967 a guy came in the gas station and noticed my Model A Panel Delivery and he came back the next week for gas and asked me if I wanted his '34 3W body and frame for free. I I took it and then gave it to a friend and he gave it to someone else...I was making $1.40 an hour before taxes.

My Dad sold his mint '67 GT500 Shelby for $2400 in 1975
I sold a mint '67 Corvette coupe, Marina Blue, 427/435HP, 4-speed with a set of Americans in 1971 for $2200.
My neighbor in 1969, bought a perfect 289 Cobra for $4000, blue with white stripes, We thought he was crazy.

I could go one and on, but you get the idea.
$4000 for a Cobra? It wight as well been $4 Million...nobody had that kind of money....

 

Got my pair of Caddy's for $3100, sold the sedan (albeit a bit too early, but I needed the $) for $2200, so that meant a whopping $900 into the coupe...not too shabby I would say. Now the $ I've put in since....that's a different story.

 

I bought a '61 bel air for $900 a few years ago, and my '54 chevy truck that I'm working on now was free!

I have purchased all of these at different times from anywhere from 200.00 to 800

 

Paid $500 each for the 54 and the 51 in the condition you see.

 

I paid $400 for a running, driving '56 Chevy 150 2-door sedan.

Paid $200 several years later for a POS '60 Chevy sedan delivery....

 

Picked up my yellow 58 TBird for free in 2006, had to rebuild the front end and fix the brakes. Added the wheels and tires and lowered it. I have not touched the exterior or interior on it (well I waxed it)

The 59 Tbird (a parts car basically) cost me hauling a shed 45 miles to his house in 2007...

Those are the two I have done the best on...

 

$1500 for '57 CHevy p/u (rolling chassis) with a 3" chopped top, fiberglass tilt front end, early '70's corvette mill, and a saganaw trans.

$300 (lien sale) for '60 rag-top VW bug. It was beat, but turned out nice after dumping $3K plus a year of nights and weekends into it.

October, last, bought on eBay a 1976 SDV, fair loaded inc. leather, for $695. Drove it home from Sturgeon Bay to South Elgin (300 miles) and got 14 mpg.

Clock and radio are the only things that don't work.

Put on over 2000 miles going back and forth to work, so far.

It's quite simple: I believe that the average 'car' guy just wants to look cool, but does not want to do any actual work. So, a car needing a bit of elbow grease goes wanting.
Doesn't hurt that gas prices are over $3 per gallon, either. But, hey, the car cost me less than one payment on a new one, and gas is about my only expense otherwise.

And it feels good after the hit I took in '09, to have an old(er) car again.

It would cost me that to import one before Ive paid owt else. and then to import every part Id need. Dont know how lucky you are.

 

I've traded my way up to this car....had about $1300 in it, before I had to get it titled and registered.

Did you see the "Myth Busters" Green Hornet episode were the geek duo destroyed two mint Imperials like yours? When will Washington do something worth while concerning cars and pass a law protecting old tin from Hollywood?

 

Not old tin but how about a 2002 Chevy 2500HD with a 30K lbs gooseneck hitch in the bed for $1000. Needed an O2 sensor and a fuel pump...
This thing has been a haulin' fool.

 

My daily (summer) driver is a 64 Falcon 2dr post and paid $100.00 for it when I found it 4 years ago...and it ran.

In the last year I found a 62 Ranchero ($100) 59 Dodge stepside ($550) 59 Biscayne ($500) 46 Chev stepside (traded labor) and my sons 71 Duster ($350) .... but I'm CHEAP !!

 

Same here man Im a thousand dollar baller. Although all my stuff is junk

 

my first two cars back in the late 60's i paid a whopping $25.00 for both cars...
first car was a 1959 ford two door, paid $20.00 for it and drove it to school for awhile, pulled the engine in auto shop to overhaul it..
second car was a 1960 ford, two door station wagon with a rod through the side of the block i paid $5.00 for, put the engine out of the first car into this one and drove it for a year or so...

 

made a new friend, who helped me get this hardtop for $300.00. now my wife has a new "non-friend"!! (she doesn't mind him, i just have a lot of cars, BEFORE i brought this one home. 54 chevy $200.00, 51 chevy $600.00, 72 chevelle $900.00 (put a lot into it since), and 53 chevy $900.00 (sold for $3800.00). i still have all of them except the green 53. you gotta love farm auctions!!
