last week there was a post wherein the source of 97's was disclosed.

could someone out there please tell me what are the rochesters that are desirable and what vehicles came with these as oem?

are there other 2bbl carbs which work well on 3x2 (or 4x2, 6x2, etc.) setups? what are they and what did they come on?

    tia.

Everything from GM in the 60's and early 70's could have 2Gs on them. Rottenchester also made a bigger carb that you don't want. The carbs from the 1st 1/2 of the 60's were the simplest ones without added complications. Some have side inlets and some have front inlets. You can use about any of them. The hard part is finding 3 that match for a 3 deuces setup. Lots of variations in va***e ports, chokes, carb bodies and venturi sizes.

I think you will find GM started using them much earlier then that, stock on 50's Olds 2bbls.

when did they quit using/making them?

  5. If I remember right, when GM intro'd the multi port "EFI" in the mid '80s they did away with the in line 6s in trucks and vans.
We would rob the HEI out of '80s inline 6 cargo vans and they always had 2 bbl. How far back they went, could't tell ya. I know all post WWII GM had them. Olds and Buick had a 2x2bbl factory setup. Pontiac and Chevy had 3x2bbls in '59 and '60. After '61, I THINK Chevy's only 3x2 setup was Corvette and Pontiac with the GTO. Just can't remember anymore!
Don't know much about Buick and Olds setups at all.

I know or at least it seems that Buick went with the Carter or Stromberg carbs as stock in the 50's. Not many had Rochesters on them that I have seen. My buddy's 55 Pontiac had a 2bbl Rochester on it stock. I think those are the ones you want. they seem simple and work well.

  7. 2bbl Rochesters came around in mid 50's I think. For sure up to '58, the fuel inlets are in the front. '59 and later are on the side. Rochester 2GC's were made up to at least 1966 because I'm rebuilding one right now on a '66 El Camino and it looks stock/original. The other thing is that a Rochester 2G is simply a carb with no choke ***embly. 2GC is the choked up carb. I find the good ones in the old Chevrolet step vans (Where the L6/283 was planted in the middle of the van) and other oddball Chevrolets that most people don't think about. I run 3x2 Rochester 2GC's on my 348, with the front and back ones modified for their purposes (no idle/choke circuits). I have a couple more stacked away somewhere....
