I find it kind of sad that so many suggest bondo or fiberglass.

as stated remove the panel then while you have it out you can get the rust off the insides and backsides.

  3. Guy asks how to fix it

Try to weld it in the cab
    Remove and repair
    Fab a new panel
    Fill it with something

all depends on goals and skills.

for me, I’d cruise it as is
for a customer, I’d remove and repair.

But I’m not losing any sleep if he kitty hairs it

Let's try to remember the original question from the OP, what caused these holes? I picture an angry woman with a blunt crowbar

I think you nailed it with “goals -operative word coming- skills”

It’s not an easy task to jump in on, just because you have a welder.

  12. I own a '46 K1 (same cab) and it would be very hard to remove that panel, it goes from one door to the other, from floor up to where you see. I guess the rust at the top of the rear window is from mouse piss and I would think the bottom of this panel at the floor is the same.
I think the best way suggested so far is to get the large headed nails, if you can find some that fit, and weld them in. then bondo.

just my opinion... but if some one can't weld those little hole with a mig.... they are not a welder, but a welder owner... kinda like anyone that has enough money can buy an air plane.... but you have to be a pilot to fly it..

    so here's a 2 part question..
#1.....if you took this to a shop, what would you be willing to pay to have the panel removed, metal finished and replaced in primer...????

    # 2 if you own a shop... what would you charge to do it???

if I bid this job.... i'm estimating 4hrs to remove the panel.... that just a phone quote, and could go up or down depending on looking at it... and at least another 4 hrs to weld metal finish. get to primer ready for the painter.and replace. so labor at $1200 plus materials... shop supplies , paint/ primer and such another $300 , so minimum $1500. plus tax on materials....

I know I bid this way to cheep and it should be time and materials... it's gonna take a shit load of hours to replace after drilling all the spot welds and put it back to look like it was never took apart...

next, the window rust,.. what I would do is remove the window if the rubber is available.. I'd use a liquid rust remover and probe around the area with a pick to see how far back I have to go to get to thick enough metal to weld to, I'd get some hanger wire,... the kind used to suspend hat rack ceilings for drywall... if the gap is too big I'd use flat stock , weld it shut and metal finish back to stock looking....

another big ticket shop done repair...

project expansion. Do too well here and you start to look hard at the rest of the sheetmetal. Next thing you know the body is hanging from the rafters while you detail the frame. Bondo and move on.

... as for welding nails in the hole  Ron Covell used to sell a small box of sheet metal circles in different sizes for filling holes. you drill the hole to fit whatever circle that works best. not sure if anyone is doing that now. also there used to be a fab shop near me that kept a metal dumpster outside, there was always a bunch of metal circles that were punched out of whatever it was they made there, so i grabbed a bunch of them. thirdly you can make your own with a Roper Whitney hole puncher if the holes are smaller than the biggest die on your punch

the holes are small enough to just weld shut... just use an air gun to cool as you go
