This OP. I did not intend this to turn contentious. Sorry.

thanks to the poster reminding me about buckshot spread. This was not a gun shot. Holes vary in diameter from pencil to dime. I was hoping someone might have an idea as to the cause.

the inner skin will be extremely difficult for me to remove. It is also the door jam on both sides and mates with the outer skin in the outer channel. I would do more damage removing it. The rear window will be one of the later things I repair. Need to work on my skill set first.

actually....I developed a huge real bad gambling and drinking problem,,,, part of the GA treatment was to re kindle and old Hobie ,so, been about 10 yrs of being away from messing with old... I'd get up at 3am and start drinking at the bar and would sit there all day playing video keno...every day... so,... I quit drinking, gambling, and hanging in bars....so far...lol... my wife walks up behind me, looking at cars for sell... she says we have enough cars, why can't you look at tits like a normal guy
anyway thanks for attacking me...bet you feel great now...

  3. This is a good plan. I just went out to look at my '46 K1 and yes, this panel goes all the was from outside the door jamb to the other side.

As far as all the ideas to cover it with a headliner, covering this area with a headliner always looks badly 80's to me. It's a metal panel that doesn't need to be covered, the headliner starts higher.

Huh? It is badly 80's to properly trim an interior? If so, I need to grow my mullet back out.

Larger closer to the seat area?

In any event, the holes add character, and you have the freedom to do with the damage as you wish. As @Lloyd's paint & glass mentioned, the pinchweld around the window opening is of much more serious concern (IMHO, too), and not the easiest area to repair.

I didn't say anything about not properly trimming an interior. To me it looks stupid to cover up panels in an old truck that weren't originally covered. There are exceptions, but in general those are my thoughts. That doesn't apply to your headliner you showed, but does apply to this International.

Look at the pictures below. The Ford has a cardboard liner everywhere, the IH has a steel panel behind the driver and the headliner is a much smaller piece. My 46 GMC (39-46 GMC/Chev) is just like the IH, as are 47-54 Chev/GMC's, etc..

Those holes almost look too in line, spaced out and thought out some to be from a shot gun. Pretty big holes to not have evidence on the outer skin. But they aren't refined for sure. Maybe from a punch and a hammer? I'd almost be more concerned with the rot around the window. For sure a conversation starter.

  9. Looks to me a metalpecker was to blame.

    What caused this?
Those are bullet holes. They look around .30 caliber. Maybe .38.
Either the cab or that panel had been shot up.

Either the outside skin has been repaired or replaced or that “shot up” piece was put in the truck to replace the original for what ever reason.

The truck cab may have had major work to it sometime in it’s past.

I think this is one of the more interesting things I have seen in a while. It’s a mystery.

For this reason I would leave the holes and just worry about the rust damaged window.
