    Just curious. Took apart a 97 and the float looked like it had been stomped. ANy good ideas for repair? Floats and other small bits are available through 97 Heaven or some other reputable dealer I ***ume?

    Sounds like the float-bowl vent may have gotten plugged. Or maybe water got in the carb and froze at some time.
    Or possibly, some ***hole removed the float, stomped it and put it back in the carb just to mess with your head..I'd be lookin at Ryan.........

    Your local NAPA might have a float or 2 in stock.
    I think they collapse when they have pressure blowing through them, but why would someone turbo or supercharge a little 2 bbl?

    Carbs with br*** floats should NEVER be used on planets with higher atmospheric pressure than ours.

    NOW you tell me. Suppose that rules out underwater applications too then.

    That link doesn't work...but I've seen those kits on ebay so I'm sure I can find it.

    Factory floats are certified to a depth of 20 feet MAX.
    Or course,if you car is in more than 20 feet of water you have other problems. [IMG]

    if it's not too crushed drop it in boiling water

    it'll pop out

    drill a small hole

    let it cool

    use a soldering iron to close it up..

    maybe it had a leak in the past and someone used too much heat sealing it back up?

    Metalshapes is right on, if you run a paxton, mccolloch or kaiser blower on a blowthrough system with any decent ammount of pressure, it will most likely crush the floats on old carbs, this isn't as big of a problem with new ones...

  12. Age causes them to collapse. Much like it has me. [IMG] [IMG]
    Grim,
    If you want I'll run by the NAPA down here and see what they want for a float. We can run it through the Friendly Auto account and git a deeeeal.
