COE What chassis are you using under your COE's

  1. Ha Steve, I believe these bags have a 10" travel & I'm about 5" up in the front to clear the front fender. But it's still a project & things may change. My rear bag set-up have changed from the photos. I now have them inside the frame rails. My new brackets are set-up for 4 bags, two in-front & two behind the rear-end. My goal is to have a fifth wheel in the bed & be able to haul a long goose neck trailer. The motor & trans in my photos were just for moc-up. I just brought home the motor/trans I will be using. Once I get them in place, I can finish the rear suspension.

  3. I believe these are called hydra boost? Mine came off a 1980 GM step van. It fits very nicely.

What he said... cept I only used the bracket and bellcrank setup then replaced the hydroboost with the Corvette booster and MC. Here's the Chevy I got it from.. GM_Step_Van_Brake_Donor.jpg

  5. My bottom step sits 2" off the ground,. So does my transmission. pan. Everything is legal at drive height. Original 1939 floor in front of the seat. The original hump in the middle gives me room for air intake & filter. 3-4-15 051.jpg .

  8. The 1980 Step Van had a short steering shaft leaning left, over the front wheel to meet the steering columb. If my cab was 10" higher, "on the peddistal", I would had kept that short shaft, but leaned it right, not left, to meet the 1939 columb. In those big vans you sit way out there, over the front wheel.
Check out adding the short steering shaft that step vans use.

  10. 1976 GM dually ch***is? what size truck? is it a P30 ch***is? If the 76 GM was a long hood, the steering box probably is angled different than the step van?

Used a 75 one ton dually . Same up to early 80's . Changed rear suspention and put a dump frame on top . If I wanted to leave body at original height the motor could have stayed under cab .

Just a crew cab, long bed pickup. P30 would probably be a better choice, I didn't have that choice as this one was free and I could never find a P30 close by.

Hey guys. I just mounted my 38 ford Coe on a 79 c30 Chevy ch***is. I am needing to use a van steering gear to get a better angle on the steering shaft coming into the cab. Does anyone have any pics or pointers on mounting the van gear to the c30 ch***is, and do I use van or c30 center link and tie rods? Thanks

I used the van box on mine , the same ch***is . The mount holes were the same but 90 degrees off . I just cut out that part of the frame and turned to what would work . I used a mix of the two tie Rod sets . Cut the center of the van rod and ground it down to two big tappers and welded back . There is a picture post 18 in my build tread . Blue

image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg Bought a frame off the local buy and sell, it's GM and was under a Minnie Winnie . The frame was already stripped of the motor home. The steering moves back and forth.rather than side to side by using excentrics fastened to the drag link,l'll get some pictures soon. I decided to use this under the 51 White I have. I tried selling just the cab but had very little interest so l'll get it steering and stopping and maybe running and see if it sells. This is where I'm at after 2 days.Top pic, I will be narrowing the fenders by 5 inches per side.

  17. Shopdawg, looks like the track width is way to narrow for the fenders, how you going to fix that?

Like i stated , I'm narrowing the fenders by 5 inches on each side. It's going to be a perfect fit. Also channeled the body over the frame 9in and removed the sleeper structure inside for more room.

To give an idea, this is the cut off portion of the fender sitting on top of the remaining fender. I'll close up the opening as well.
