Is it me, or is the early Ford oval grill cabovers the most wanted truck? What's everyone else think?
nope, its just that there are more of them around! there are so many cool ones that its hard for me to narrow down. I have a 52 & 53 ford coe. now if I could just get my 38 home id be set...
The oval grill Fords are pretty popular, but there were a lot of them. I have only seen maybe a dozen '39 GMC's like mine on the net But I don't think that makes it more sought after.
No Fords on my property; You won't see any Chevrolet COE's before 1939. I read that 1939 was the first year GM started producing Chevrolet COE's in a GM plant. I did read that Chevrolet & some one else (can't remember just who) went together & made a few in 1937 & 38. But 1939 was the first year for a Chevy COE manufactured at a GM plant... Lucky Ford, they got to flood the market till than.
From the reserch i've done, fords were first made by ford in 1938. there were 50 made by a company in pittsburg based on 35-37 ford cabs. very rare but out there, a friend told me most were made for early fire trucks but thats hearsay. i would like to find some facts about the earlier versions. The oval grills were 38-39 and 40's, the 38-39 models had subtle differences such as round gauges and no frames around the door gl***, as well the badges were different. the 40's had the wing badge at the top of the grill.
Looks like they just added a bunch of tin to the bottom of a stock cab and made a long simple hood. grill?
