Black block, oil pan and heads with some chrome not overdone or aluminum not overdone.

    Hello,

Engine color was something no one paid attention to unless the hot rod was a show car. It was the color that came from the factory. But, for added accessories to make the engine compartment stand out, it was usually orange-red in our teenage era. These days, it is all sorts of colors, but the lighter colors in shades of grey help show leaks of any kind. They are hard to see under all of the hoses and black metal coverings of stock motors.

If it is the Maroon hot rod in the photo, the color of the motor could be maroon and paint the radiator black. The yellow sticks out like a sore thumb and does not go with anything. The radiator is old style from way back as polished brass was a big thing, but these days quiet design and outstanding work is the choice of most. Nothing to stick out and say 70s-80s…

A good black paint does wonders. Other colors will help show oil leaks, but the engine assembly and how it is maintained is the key to a good running motor. Nothing fancy, the finned covers give it enough of a custom look, but it does need something different for that radiator hose.

The flexibility is needed, so, perhaps a larger formed one piece shield to at least hide the hideous hose. It would do wonders for a nice showcase motor compartment. YRMV
