  3. Black, there are only two colors for a hot rod, black or ugly.

Damn, my wife said the same thing. Maybe I should change the poll to interior ideas.

Why do you care what others think? Paint is a hundred bucks a gallon. Color is free.

Black cars are like belly buttons almost everyone has one. Not that I don't like black but just like Red Fords at the 1973 Street Rod Nationals you go somewhere with a black Model A and it is one of a hundred black model A's that all start to look just alike.

Still a car's color is a personal thing and a guy shouldn't be painting his car a color just to please others unless it is a trophy whore car that absolutely has to fit in with other guys concept of what color it should be to be able to win trophies.
The only thing I can say other than that is make sure that the color you pick looks good in different light. What may look great out in the daylight might not look so great under street lights or under the lights in an indoor show if you decide to show it indoors. And some colors just fade into the background and the car becomes almost invisible.

India Ivory with a burnt orange chassis and wheels. Get a good striper to do light grey, black and bright orange flurries all over it (Dutch type striping for those who didn't know).

I'm sorry but I have to disagree. Hot rods ought to be 2 toned....
    Black and chrome.

black by definition is the absence of color, although it reflects back all the colors around it, thus in my opinion it is all colors. that said; paint it green.

Whatever color you paint it make sure that it is a color that you can live with a couple of years down the road. Paint jobs are too expensive to do on a regular basis. Some years ago I was going to buy a new OT Camaro. They had one in royal blue that I really liked - for about five minutes. I bought a black one instead and still own it and still like it.

I'm glad you are painting it. Any color but suede or rust gets my vote.

I chose black on your poll assuming that it would be shiny.

I picked the India Ivory. I have a image in my head that the body be Ivory with ivory and black interior (57' Chevy inspired). Or Red and black interior. Red wires with blackwall firestones. I tell people that and most say: I hate a white car, or white means your hiding something. Anyway, I just wanted to see what you all thought. Sometimes it is good to get feedback from you all.

Of course I'm going to say good call, but make sure it's an older shade. There's dozens of whites. I see that color as something akin to old piano keys, like real aged ivory. You want to avoid too much of the yellow or brown that "tones" an antique white because it will appear as a pastel of that color family. PPG has a color called "Vanilla Shake" that fits the idea pretty close, and the late model Mopar white that you see on PT Cruisers works good too. Last bit of input, be sure to spray it over a black base. Try it on a test panel 1st and you'll see why, and be glad you did. And if you don't post pics of it done you're a dickhead...

black is the absence of color because it does NOT reflect light... white reflects all light.. anyhow, paint it what color YOU like, and stop worrying about what people are going to think...

    thinking, is traditional...
doing what everyone else does is always current, being your own hot rodder is keeping tradition alive.

you're a bit lippy this morning there zero-W larry...its been a while, do i need to bust your chops a little again?

I too went back and forth on color(s)-it's no easy decision to make... It's like naming a child (I assume) I don't envy your position.

Black is fine. But it's a bandwagon color. Everyone has a black hot rod. Thou I don't want it to look like a easter egg either, I just thought of them Jags, and Austin's in the fifties that were Old English White with rich red interior. But dammit you people are making it hard for me to not paint it black..

So you're all done with it and it's black. You roll in to a gathering and they can't totally figure out if it's you or Frank or Bob that just showed up because you all have black coupes. True enough, we can pretty much tell one car from the other because we're car guys, but in a casual observation it's another black Model A coupe. I like black cars too but we all build something the says who we are in one way or another. It can say we all think along the same lines, have like interests, appreciate the finer things from bygone days. It doesn't mean we all have to be black. As a finisher by trade, black should make a statement in my view. It should serve to show off craftsmanship and talent when it comes to creating a surface. The again, if you max out a surface and do it in an off white the effect is like magic. It does things you don't normally see.

Forget the rest of us, even me. Be you bro.

But you're still a dickhead if we don't get to see it done...
