I think it looks awesome just as it sits. If you just have to scratch the paint itch, flake the roof and leave the rest like it is. It's sweet.

Did anybody yet mention that white is the correct answer here? If it is getting too ratty for you to stand, repaint.

By the way, I know there are lots of proponents of 'flaked tops on these cars, but on this particular one, I think it would kill the very cool vibe the old grocery getter has.

My opinion for what it's worth,,,,Don't touch it,,,,

The white is perfect,,,and it can be original paint only once. HRP

Look at pictures of older German cars like Porsche and Mercedes. Red was a popular color for interiors. You should be able to come up with lots of wild combinations.

It may sound weird but i was thinking maybe a really light blue/silverish blue or a pale yellow. Cant go wrong with gold or just leave it white.

It looks nice the way it is. Maybe just repaint it white.

I've done several with different shades of red on the interiors in GMC Wheatland Yellow. Photographs great.

If that is the origional, never been repainted paint, I'd have a hard time messin' with it. Thay're only origional once. Maybe a red flake roof, and leave the rest. If you have to repaint it, I'd say dark blue, a matching red, or silver with a white top would look *****in', and cl***y. Oh, and I'd drop the *** end another inch or two also.

Are you sure this forum is for you??????

Mutely should have fun with this.

I like the pewter idea. Dark swede blue would also be AWESOME!

You should see it with me, the wife and our three kids in it. It sits 2" lower front and back. Basically on the bump stops. Its going on bags soon. I think I will flake the top for now....Billet Proof NW this June. Cant wait!

Subtle speaks volumes, and flaking everything in sight is not always the answer. There will come a time when you will see "Flake is the new billet" in sigs and on stickers. Taste is purely subjective, but my vote would be for a pale, grayish pearl silver with an off-white top and the red interior. Timeless, cl***y, and not beholden to any current fad.

I have always liked silver with red interior...had a buddy with a 62 impala with that combination, and it looked sharp..:)

Leaving it alone, silver, black, flaked roof... all good choices. Just thinking outside the box here, how 'bout a medium grey (not silver, non metallic) or tan or cream. A dark, dark forest green, or black with green pearl would look good to, and not run the risk of looking like a Christmas tree like a bright green would.

Seafoam green is an amazing color. And it looks both trad and bad***. A second this idea.

Normally I would recommend to leave it white, but it DOES resemble a big *** refridgerator. I would get a custom paint expert to show you some two-tone choices, similar to the zombie wagon on Jalopy Journal. But of course, the trim gave a natural break down the middle, where you don't have that....but it could still be done. Even a slight treatment across the bottom would be nice. Black or better yet, an Opalescent Gunmetal Gray would make it a "meaner" looking ride, i.e. hot rod as opposed to your grandmother's car (no offense). I would also install some mag wheels, something from that period.
    My 2 sense.

I say silver. I like the Silver and Red combo on this GTO.

Pretty easy for any of us to spend YOUR money on a paint job, which will be expensive anyway you look at it...but then again, you're the one that asked the question. A thorough polishing of the white would probably work wonders, and given that you have the right tools, would be very low cost.

Also, I change my vote from an opalescent Gray to Opalescent Dark Blue...outstanding with red interior!

How about yellow? If you want to make a statement, it would really make the car pop. It sounds disgusting, but I've seen a couple of early style cars with this combo and it looked really good.

My vote would be black, but I guess that's out of the question.

Metallic Lime Green/Gold. It's a cl***ic color combination that's not over-done, and it works great with a red like that. You can keep the wheels, or go with something else later.

My vote is for keeping the white but I had a '62 Impala SS, Ermine White over Roman Red with a Red interior, always thought that was pretty sharp. All red works too, hard to beat the factory color combos. Black or silver would be good too.
