Hot Rods What color wheels on my '30 coupe w/ firestone blackwalls??

I am having a hard time deciding what color to paint my 16"x4.5" spoke wheels. The front wheels will have 600x16 firestone blackwalls and the rears will have 700x16 firestone blackwalls. The car is a 3" chopped, 4" channeled very traditional flat black hot rod.

I have been playing around with the idea of flat black, primer grey, or cream (camel) wheels. Any suggestions or pictures would be greatly appreciated!

ALSO...should I spend $85/wheel to have them powder coated or get all of them blasted and painted for $75 total??

Last thing, the wheels seem to be pretty straight, but do I need to have them trued? They are original 1930's without any significant dings or damage.

Third on the blast and paint! I think a dark maroon or dark green. A little idea is to have them powder coated-they can evern do a "chrome" type of finish now with powder coat, or candies!!!!

Didn't say if you were running center caps or not.

I'd vote gloss black with center caps or a contrasting color with no caps.
How about dark gray like aged magnesium?

Photos aren't correct wheels but some color ideas.......

  29. Personally, the all black wheel thing for me is hit or miss. I've seen cars where it works but I've also seen cars that look like someone bolted a big black m*** on all 4 corners. You couldn't tell where the tire stopped and the wheel began and it just killed the look for me.

I say a nice contrast or accent color is the way to go. I also like when the wheels are matched up with something else on the car like the engine, fire wall, interior, or even the top insert. The key is don't go color crazy. Paint is better than powder coat if your having a hard time deciding because if you don't get it right the first time you just blast them & start over.

Do something tasteful but don't over think it. I vote for the cream with a small accent stripe.
