Looking for recomendations for a good compressor. Would like something that doesn't die out while your are tring to use a grinder or something. What do you suggest?

I've got a compressor behind the shop that belongs to a friend of mine and I know he'll be willing to sell it cheap.....I'll give him a call tomorrow and I can show it to you on Tuesday nite or you can come by on Sat.

My pops is in town and wants to get me a compressor. Is that compressor something worth waiting for or should I just let my dad get me a new one? I'm looking at a 33 gal craftsman, 6hp right now.

i have a craftsmen 5hp 30 gal. it can't keep up with the da sanders i use. i have to stop working to let it build up psi. i'm saving to buy a much bigger compressor. possibly a 80 gal one. try to buy the biggest money can buy you.

Mike, I'm using a 5.5 HP 26gallon Husky compressor from the Home Depot. I'm pretty sure you'll be doing the same **** I do with mine, and this does what I need. The ONLY ***** is that it is loud as hell when it runs continuously (for me, that's porting and cut off wheel stuff). It sounds like Mark's compressor is the kind that takes oil. They are much quieter. If it is in good shape and only needs a belt, at least look at it, it should be quieter.

I feel guilty when I run mine after 9 PM.

The thing is I am rebuilding that ****** and air would be really nice. I have the option of getting air quickly and getting that ****** built, or waiting. And I don't have much patientce [IMG]
I'll shop tomorrow and see what I come up with. This 33 gal one at sears comes with 3 tools too, so it's that much more appealing.

I don't know if you can get one for $300, but a two-stage will give you more air. Belt drive is quieter than the oil-less direct drive models. They seem to be more efficient as well. Get the biggest size you can in the compressor, and reasonable tank size. A real large tank takes a long time to build up to max pressure.

Every garage that works on old cars needs a compressor.
