This is the only car I had when I was in high school and my folks didn't know I was racing. This was 1948.
It was 1/4 mile paved oval.

class of 2005, i definitely had one of the most bad ass rides. I had a 1974 Dart swinger with a 340, dual exhaust, shift kit, glass packs, 10 inch tires in the rear with 6 inch in the front, on craggar ss rims with spinners, air ride, i bought the car when i was 14, and restored it by the age of 16 when i got my license. There was another kid who had a 71 coronet, but he had a slant six, and there was a kid with a nova, but mine was def. the best out of them all, and the only one that didn't get in trouble for doing a smoke show on graduation night. (the security guard had a thing for Mopars)

I wouldn't say it was a cool car but I loved it, 78 monte carlo, I also had a 72 monte carlo that was my first car.

So looking back on it I had two cars when I was 18 and that somehow helps me justify the 5 cars I have now. Or maybe what my friends say is true and I do have a problem... and it dates all the way back to my teens.

    A metallic-green '72 Nova w/mild 350 & auto.

It ran 14.3's all day long, smoke tires like no tomorrow, and get lots of looks at the car shows. Kinda sad that I had to sell it.

I had a 73 Buick Century that I got off my brother. The ass end was all smashed but he owed me $40 so he gave me the car. Ran GREAT and was actually quite quick. It was a nice car until the back end got smashed. I drove it for about a year and sold it for $250 if I remember right.

'66 Caprice 2 dr hdtp, 396, Turbo 400, factory buckets and console with gauges in the console. Fast, comfortable, and would fry the tires off. On that car I did my first brake job, first engine rebuild, first front end rebuild, and lots more.

Second car was a 55 Chevy 210 2 dr sedan. Granny green with a white top until I painted it 75 Corvette Yellow.

Third car was a chopped, channeled, fenderless 30 Ford coupe powered by 289, C-4, 8 inch rear.

  26. haha, I ruled the roost my senior year of High School. 1960 VW with roll back top and some serious work done to it. 2110cc motor, dual webers, dynoed 200hp, 4.11 gears and a short throw 4 speed. It was the smasher of high school kids egos and the destroyer of 350 camaros and novas during my senior year. :D Car would run a high 13 second quarter mile and eat your lunch from stop light to stop light. ;)

Since then I've always had a great appreciation for doing more with less. Must explain my love of the Slant 6.

    Senior year ... 1966

I had a 5 year old 40 HP VW bug.
I went to one of the larger high schools in the area ( 1200 students ) and maybe only 40 or 50 students drove to school. Some of the 40/50 drove their mom or dads car. So I was actually pretty lucky to have my own car ... even if it was a Volkswagen. ;)

It was not fast, cool or any of the things a gearhead high school senior wanted ... but it was rock steady dependable, easy on gas ( 30 cents a gallon ) and got me and my girl friend ( now my wife :) ) where we wanted to go.

    :D

  28. 72 chevelle ss...red with black interior...like an idiot I sold it (way too cheaply) and bought a new 77 camaro...if I knew then what I know now

I had a '51 Plymouth 4 door Cranbrook C-dan with a screamin' flat head six that would do darn near 70 mph. It was a pristine one owner with less that 40,000 miles and I paid $200 for it. I had the oldest, slowest but cleanest car in the group.
