Sometimes I think they just want to talk to someone. Yesterday a man approached and asked how long I have had it and immediately began to tell about his VW bug convertible, the similarities I fail to get, unless his is all rusty too.

since the Disney movie "Cars" came out, I hear "Mom, Dad, that's Doc...the Fabulous Hudson Hornet". I guess it doesn't matter to them that the car isn't blue.

I've heard "When did Ford stop making the Hudson?"

My favorite are the ones that had Hudson's themselves or remember their fathers owning a Hudson. It seems to bring back a lot of memories for them.

    This is rad, good idea.
My 34 gets unbelievable looks, mostly of the "I can't beleive it runs" type. The 60 wagon gets Ghostbusters, I hate it.

I find it interesting how different cars appeal to different groups of people.
    Kids loved my T Bucket,
old guys seem to dig the '40 (in the avatar)
and the '61 Rambler wagon I had got thumbs up and 'I had one like that' type comments from every homeless guy around!
Made me wonder if owning a Rambler leads to a destitute life!

Not sure what most people think of my cars but I can tell you middle aged women LOVE a 60 t-bird. And white rapper kids with the sideways ball caps and their ass hangin out of their pants LOVE 59 chevy wagons. The stupid fuckers always say its "gangsta" and freak out.

Had one of my best ones yet yesterday at the gas station. Just topped off the Stude and was walking back out when this 20 something in a new Jeep rolled past my car REAL slow then stopped beside it with a glazed grin on his face. He just stared nodding his head slowly, as I approached my car he looked at me and got a big shit eatin' grin and said slow and loud, "A-W-E-S-O-M-E!" then slowly rolled away. It made my wife's day, she said "He was obviously talking about me................" I quickly replied "Obviously!" ;)

  15. Maybe you and I were seperated at birth and are long lost brothers!
I get asked all the time "Why do you have hydros and supremes, are those for lowriders?":D

  16. That is too funny. I think the best one I got was from a kid at a parts store. He asked if I was going to paint back like a cop car. When I asked what he was talking about he said "Well you still have the police lights on it", he was talking about my dummy spots. I just smiled and thought, what a dumb shit!:D

My dad and I were just talking about this the other day...
The look on peoples faces pretty much say it all. Kids are the best though~There isn't any inhibitions to what they say, think or ask.

I was working on the "A" Coupe last weekend & a neighbors kid (maybe 5) was really interested in what I was doing. Could not understand what it was (wheels off, no glass etc etc), asked me if was a plane :D The whole concept of a 77 year old car was well over his head, even his mother was perplexed & just thought it was neat.

Even our simple white ‘62 Corvair gets perplexed looks and interesting comments. A nice twenty-something girl and her daughter stopped to look at it and said, “what is that?” After we explained she said, “it’s so cute and so small, I’d love to have one!”
There is hope for the future generations. We’ve had several encounters like that.

It's easy to figure out what people think, but what about the animals. Back in the late '90s, I was driving my '50 Ford when I saw a dog riding shotgun in the vehicle next to me. It looked over at my car, looked away and did a double take, at least that's the way it appeared to me. What was that dog thinking?, "I would really like to pee on those big whitewalls! "

  30. Whenever I see a resuscitation bump of a 12-year-old thread, I always give the bumpee a look.
But it's all good. I get to add my comment to the pile. :p

I notice a pattern that I get the most smiles from blue-collar dudes in commercial vehicles.
If I get comments, they are usually 2 words, "Nice __blank__". The first word is all that matters to me. The second word is just their best guess and those guesses are all over the map. My point is, they are smiling and trying to be "nice" and that's what I'll take away with me. I just eat the meat and throw away the bones.
That first adjective is where I feel the weight and the following noun is just a placeholder. I'm sure every one of 'em owns a few things that I have no clue what to call it. Like I said. "It's all good!"
