Just got my 29 Speedster running and it was going great. I changed all the fuilds, oil, tranny, radiator. When I went out the otherday, I thought I heard some rod noise, but didn't really know what to expect, as the speedster is really open and there is a lot of noise. I noticed that my oil pressure was high (6 lbs on a 1-6 lbs meter) although it goes higher the faster the engine turns. I went out a little later ,when I started the engine I heard a "clang" noise . I thought it was my fan hitting something, but no...... it was coming from the oil pan. I guess I have spun a rod bearing/babbit. Les Andrews says you can replace a rod without removing the engine. Can I just pull the pan off , take the bottom of the rod off and rotate the crank out of the way, remove the circlip in the wrist pin and take the rod out? Can I get just that rod re-babbited or what. This is the first time I have had any peoblems with this four banger. I am tempted to just take the car to Mikes in MAysville GA and have the engine redone with insert bearings....... but my wallet would really hurt. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dropthumbs
Drop the pan, and then you'll know what to do next. Maybe just a bolt fell off, but maybe the crank is all chewed up. Too many options until you look-see.
