'39 Mercury, my dad bought it the day I was born, so it was just a couple of days old, too

Thought I posted on this one...Mom and Dad bought a '37 Ford tudor flatback from the Reno Ford dealer in 1938. (it was his wife's 'Demo'...she drove it a year, turned it in, and my Mom had to have that little Ford V8! 85 H.P. with a Columbia axle, car was Dove gray)
Pearl Harbor was bombed in December, I was born October, 1942.
My uncle Loren drove Mom's '37 to O'Conner's Hospital to bring Mom and me home.

There was a standing 'bet' with that Ford. My dad was a truck driver, ("gear guy") and would bet friends that Mom's '37 would do 85 in second. Laughter would erupt, bets went as high as $10.
Dad would fire it up, seat 'em in the shotgun seat, and drive out Brokaw Rd. Second gear to 55, shift up into O.D., and wind it to 85...they couldn't believe it.

On the way home from the hospital, Uncle Loren asks Mom, "Will this thing really do 85 in second?"

    Either Dads 283 3 speed 59 Biscayne 2 door, or the 390 4 speed 69 Mustang Fastback.

My dad was in the Navy and he brought me and my twin brother, my mom and another sailor's wife and baby home at the same time in a V12 Lincoln. Mom says they got a few stares when he left maternity with two women, all three with a baby.

Not positive because I was very young back in January 1939. But probably the same 1934 Chevy 4-door we later went to Portland around 1942 or 43 and back to central Illinois a few years later.

"They say" that Dot Robinson of the Goulding sidecar family was born in a sidecar on her way to the hospital. No idea if it's true but that's the word among Indian motorcycle restorers.

  19. My moms 1939 chevy 2dr sedan. I remember the car ,but not that particular ride .

  20. Rode my chicken home from the hospital- bummed a chesterfield on the way

(Way better than the actual story, trust me)

Mom and dad brought me home behind the seat in a 1946 MG TC, right hand drive. He kept the car until the lat 80's then sold it to a guy from Germany. It was a fun car to drive and got lots of looks.

I'm guessing a 49/50 Ford. My old man was obsessed with them in the 60's. He was way ahead of his time.
