  7. Have been working on making my bed. Let me explain. Working on my 46 Chevy open wheel hot rod, using a Honda Passport frame, and wanted the bed to fit properly between the rear tires, cab, and bumper. The bed side panels, in and around the stake pockets, were a little beat up after 60 plus years of service, and I needed to cut 18" from the overall length. So I Drilled out the spot welds on the stake pockets, and cut 9" off each end of the box. What I got was some wonderful fresh metal to work with, and no stake pocket holes. I straightened the front bed panel, cut 5" out of it, and welded it back together. Bought a tail gate for a 55-59 for $20.00 bucks and cut 2 1/2" off each side and will be trimming the height to fit.
Back to work today fitting the box to the rear of the Chassis.

  8. It was my birthday. Had oysters on the half-shell for lunch in Gulf Shores, Alabama, then went crabbing to catch some dinner. Last night..Mardi Gras parade in Fairhope, then honky tonkin. There was a HAMB non-friendly car show somewhere in the area. My wife kept pointing out oncoming street rods, saying how cute they were. I pretended to agree with her, as I have been unable, in 43 years, to adequately explain to her what I like and don't like when it comes to hot rods.

Picked up a buddy who is building a '56 Ford. Went to a buddys' house who is finishing up his '46 Plymouth. Talked hotrods in Jackies shop (it was 26 degrees outside). Came home and finished wiring the new gauges for my '40. And good day all around!

Stayed in with gorgeous wife, our 28th anniversary. Wife Joey contributed some quick ideas on '23 turtle deck roadster, we moved some things off my frame table, got it ready for the 'A' rails...
Made some salami, smoked oysters, and Provolone cheese snacks on crackers...
    Be cutting & welding tomorrow!

Spent the day relaxing and cruising the HAMB. Got the whole cold/flu thing going, so not much is getting done.

Put wood in the stove about every hour on the hour and froze my butt off when I went out and refilled the wood box. It was 6 F when I got up and got all the way up to 20 yesterday but it's 50 with the wind blowing today and I need to go back out and get the starter back on the 71. I keep wondering why I thought it was such a great idea to put headers on that thing.

Photo album hunting after that job is finished.

Went in to work for what was supposed to be`an easy Saturday. They had a material handler that they had to leave running because they couldn't release the parking brake. Usually it's just a pressure switch and it's either replace it or make a jumper lead. Next would be the coil on the control valve. This time it was low servo pressure. I needed to move it out of the way so I was going to make a hose to connect a hand pump to the metric fitting on the parking brake. Just got into the shop to make the hose and the lights went dim. After some checking I found that there was one phase out, shut the building power down and called the power company.

Shortly after the building power went down, the shredder went down. We suspected more power company problems. When they got there the power company found the shredder power was ok but the building power had lost a phase. I checked the control power for the motor control cabinets and found and replaced a blown fuse and got the shredder started again.

I couldn't make the hose to release the brake because the hose crimper is three phase. We couldn't fuel the material handler because the power to the pump was out too. It snowed in the meantime so I was able to move the machine by extending the boom to take some weight off the rear wheels so they would slide on the snow. I at least got it out of the way. They got the power back up at around 2:00. We parked a couple machines in the building and the furnace wasn't running. The fan relay had tripped because of the one phase being down. It was going to be below zero so we checked all of the furnaces in the 4 buildings. 5 out of six had to be reset.

It was 3:00 before I got out of there.

Early in the day spent sanding/staining/re-finishing a stock/handguards for an M1 Garand match rifle.

Spent the rest of the day with my wife, it was her birthday. Bonefish grill for dinner and a movie "Unknown".

Great day...went by too quickly as they all seem to do when not at work

  25. The same thing I did Friday and the same thing I did today. Detailed out my 32 heavy axle. Should finish up tomorrow. Then it goes to the powder coating shop for some gloss black.

Drove 3 hours to KC, bought 2 big Lincoln flathead V8's and a Chrysler 413 from a Hamber friend, stopped and ate a steak at a sports bar in Lawrence with my son who is in college there, drove home while listening to the KU-OU game (we won) and took some phone calls which resulted in sales. Good day here on the flats.

Put new rotors and pads on the sister-in-laws truck, drained the oil from my roadster, put on an engine oil cooler, topped her off with some 10w 40 and went for a fast ride.
