They are a serious challenge when you have to do rust repair.... 3 sometimes 4 layers of panels stacked together make it sturdy when theres no rust, but very weak once the rust sets in. And tying everything together makes a person wanna give up....

But they are SO DAMN SEXY....

D10069F8-C8C0-4E05-91FE-10D92E04C98A.jpeg Bought this while shopping with the wife... for $8. The real deal, old school American made K-D stuff.

  12. I had bought some plunder at the Hub Cap Jct Auction Sat. Yesterday I loaded my trailer with about 40 tires and wheels. Then stacked a quantity of tin on top of the tires. And loaded my truck bed to the gills also. I had neglected to check the air in my trailer tires before leaving home. After I loaded it I seen the tires where very low. So I left the trailer and came home and unloaded my Pk. This morning I went back and took a little 110 volt air compressor and inflated all the trailer tires to 60 PSI. Loaded the 66 GMC and brought the load home no problem . The little 250 pulled the load ok I did hsve to shift downon a few places. GMC & trailer load 001.JPG GMC & trailer load 002.JPG GMC & trailer load 003.JPG hub cap 2 014.JPG But today the scrappers where actively dragging stuff from the overgrowth. And I spotted the remains of a 55 or 56 Pontiac on a scrappers trailer. Still has the V8 engine and stick trans. I managed to buy it from them. So tomorrow I will attempt to haul it home.

  13. Last week, I was going like gang busters. To help organize the yard, I had stripped a bunch of tires from some wire wheels, and tossed the hulks away, and replaced the governor on the Bobcat loader. Then I became severely ill.
I have been down ill for 5 days, and I am totally pissed off at having lost the time. The doctor suspects thyroid, or some other hormonal problem. I get so cold, temp mid 90s, that I shake, then an excruciating pain begins in the front of the neck, and spreads out to the jaw and shoulders. I can't work, and can't sleep. I am getting a referral to an endocrinologist. More doctors, more fun.
    Couldn't pick up a tool.

Hope the doc figures everything out for you so you can get back at it like you want

  15. Thanks, it is scary as well as being very painful. I am already on prednisone, and it can be causing the problem. It is a drug that saves your life, then spends the rest of the time slowly killing you.

Drug my project out of the shop so I could see it from more than 12' away. Looked for lines, shape and problems. Found a few small problems. Time to blow it apart and get the bare metal in epoxy primer, stick it all back together and put some miles on it before winter!

All I did was watch the glass man finish up installing the windows on my '37 Chevy coupe project.

    One step closer.

  20. Went and loaded and hauled home another pickup load of my auction plunder. Looked the remains of the Pontiac over really good. From the Vin and hood ornament I determined its a 56. poured a quart of ATF down the carb.

  22. Ive awakened quite a few zombie engines over the decades. I will pull the spark plugs and fill the cyls with ATF and diesel. Pull the oil pan to be certain its clean and pull the valve covers to be certisn all the valves go up and down. besides the oil fill cap is missing I will be surprised if there isn't mud wasp nest or mouse nest under there. The dist and wires are there. But later HEI will fit. And the fixture that bolts to the block for the cannister oil filter can be swapped for a later one that uses a spin on filter.

I made this little rig to pressure test Ford flathead blocks. Got three or four to check, it'll take me a little while. Sometimes if you root thru your stuff long enough you don't have to buy anything:

  28. Went and hauled my last truck load of plunder from the Hub Cap Jct Auction. I got the 56 Pontiac remains loaded with some boards and a come along. Its barely on the bed mostly on the tailgate but I had it securely fastened with a log chain and ratchet binder at the rear. and a ratchet strap in the front. Made it home with no trouble.
