Technical What did you do with your car today? * NEW*

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by j hansen, May 3, 2020.

  1. Hung around the fairgrounds visiting with old friends and watching cars go by.

  2. I like that, I've got a 41 with a dual quad big block in it myself.

Finally removed the FE today and installed new freeze plugs as incorrect ones had been installed when engine was put together, 1 3/4" and not 1 49/64", causing a slight weep. There was NO way they could be replaced without removing engine, there was just NO room whatsoever! :( The freeze plugs came out easy being undersized with the new ones fitting a lot more snug. I flushed the block beforehand and washed some residual crud and scale out. Hopefully my cooling issues are now addressed.
Car is now a roller and back on hoist where I trimmed the transmission tunnel because the shifter rods were touching the metal. Again, another thing that wasn't done properly when the car was built, not by me. T10 goes back in tomorrow using a borrowed transmission jack that I used to remove it. Once car is running the 35 Chevy goes onto hoist as the 700R is toast and needs to be removed for a rebuild. That borrowed jack will come in handy for a second time. ;)

Then went to Torrance Industrial for a homemade mandrel for barrel sanding and got a Dorney 80 grit flap wheel . That's it for today just pulled up to the beach now have a good one ,

  6. Went to move the project 34 Victoria to the back of shop, cross ways, to give me room to park the 47 coupe in the garage. Car was up on stands on wheel dollies, something didn't like the move, and went over sideways. No one hurt, small dent in rear quarter panel lip(beside a rust hole), and now it's settled in it's new spot. And lower to the ground!

Transmission tunnel trimmed, engine installed with car back onto hoist for transmission installation. Shifter readjusted (White rod). I'm just waiting for new idler arm bushings, PS steer are different to MS. Header installation is next once drag link is replaced before moving onto removing auto in 35 Chevy. 288706926_556200752622646_848565631732656742_n(1).jpg

Finally figured out the infernal rattle my car has been making. I've been trying to guess what was rattling when I hit bumps for th last few months. As always, occam's razor rules and it ended up being the lake pipe bolts had come loose. Car sounds tight and right again.

  9. Started this 3 weeks ago today and should be off the jig by the end of the week. 1932 Plymouth chassis for a good buddy of mine. Pretty basic, partly boxed, and 1/8 " out of square over 132", so not bad for a 90 year old frame done by a couple of 60+ year old geezers ! Also of note for MOPAR fans, it'll have a 318, 727 trans and 8 3/4 rear out back. So an all MOPAR build, which isn't all that common in today's world. IMG_0338.JPG IMG_0339.JPG IMG_0340.JPG

  10. I redid my red tint. After about 6 months it fades to orange. I'm actually getting better at it! Haha Less bubbles.....

Yesterday, I finished up my kingpins. Reamed them out, fit them, assembled the spindles with backing plates and hubs. Tried to finish assembling the front end, found a couple small hiccups with the F1 brake conversion. So, today, I started addressing those issues, but it became too hot to work outside (105 degrees). Now to wait for this evening to cool down a little.

Your probably right, I’m posting on two or more threads. I think I’ll just keep posting to my build thread “blowing this thing apart” save some bytes.

Gave the 50 a bath, flushed the radiator and drove it around for about an hour to see if the water wetter stuff actually made a difference. Actually seemed to help with the Florida heat.

Came home, and scrubbed out 70 years of dust from the trunk in preparation for the new whitewall spare that’s gonna live back there.

20220627_200824b.jpg Test fitted new wheels I picked up at the swap meet at LARS this month. Now to decide what tires to run on them, I'm leaning towards some cheater slicks from Towel City on the back (but I will entertain any suggestions, rear wheel size is 15 x 8 1/2; front is 15 x 6.

  21. If you’re going to run cheater slicks ya gotta do at least one burnout. Just sayin.

Drove to work then took the boys out to eat at this strange looking place on Route 66 with a big pop bottle out front.

Good to see those younguns are doing what they do. Staring at their phones instead of watching the scenery go by.

No doubt. Thankfully, these do actually enjoy the scenery too. I just happened to catch both of them obviously looking at something more interesting than cars on the highway...

Yep, us too. Nice that it is only about 30 minutes from where we live. I think my son only wanted to go there so he could get a bunch of different kinds of pop. :D

that's cool, I dig it. But maybe it should go in the Antiquated forum instead of here. The mods get touchy with off-topic photos and discussion. This thread has been closed once before because of that.

Purchased the rubber inner fender panel to upper A-arm years ago but never found the Ford part #16050 brackets to mount them and decided to fab my own. Didn’t think about the front end being lowered 2”. Made a difference and the deflectors look pretty good. Passenger side was a pita due to the AC pump and lines. Just something for a bored retired guy to do. 6DB37C5F-E67E-4326-8169-3AE7AD758E3B.jpeg
