Technical What did you do with your car today? * NEW*

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by j hansen, May 3, 2020.

  1. Took the headlights for our '47 apart and slotted the backside of the adjustment screws along with making a couple access holes in the buckets. Put some new wires and loom on them along with a couple of NOS bulbs. Will see if this works for adjusting them once they go in from under the fender.

Got the steering finished. Had to use two double joints to get the clearance around the headers and the correct angle to get to the shaft coming out of the steering box. Just have to make a bracket for the support bearing. Probably will come off of the top of the frame. Also made up exhaust hangers and welded them in. IMG_1328.jpeg

  10. Put the lights on our '47, also messed around with the nose of the hood some more. Hoping someone would show up so I could take it off and finish it; but it was quiet today. Stuck an old top grille bar on to check if everything was still in the right place.

  12. Rounded up the grille parts from various hiding places and after a couple hours had it together. Shoulda been quicker; but the spring clips were a nuisance to get in place. Next step; see if it still fits in car.

This ram air build has been the toughest thing to get it where I am satisfied with the look. This fender inlet is like the fifth rendition. But I could not be happier. Mig welding rust and that stainless screen is always a challenge. The worst part is now I have to do it one more time !

Final steering mods included flipping column to underside of lower mount and building custom angled upper hex couplings which position the upper mount in a more perpendicular relation to the column. Bottom line, the steering works!!!

  16. Not much done today; glued in some felt sealing strips between the inner pan and radiator and bolted the grille in place.

Gotta figure out what’s up with the Voltmeter.

Installed LED bulbs for the ‘52. Had some old discontinued lights at work, grabbed ‘em.
Also, installed my “Traffic Minder” Guide traffic light thingie… so, I can see the light change (windshield in the ‘52 is kinda low).

I dropped my column a bit, and made a door so I can access my master cylinder through the floor once everything is together. I also worked on a bracket to add another connection point between the body and subrails. I have to give a shout out to Cornfield Customs for the coining tool to round out beads. Wow, it makes a difference.

Working on my fender to keep it from blowing off at around 80 or 90. This should keep it intact to at least 100. Lol IMG_1234.JPG IMG_1236.JPG IMG_1235.JPG

  26. Got up to the shop and found another welder sitting in the middle of the place.

Added some fender welt to the front pan and since John stopped by I enlisted his help to tighten all the bolts and screws that hold the front clip together.

Moved on to the bumper and found out one of the brackets was bent. Really don't know how you can take an unbent bumper off a car and remove, blast, and paint the irons and end up with one bent about 4" out of place. One of Drake's bumpers fit the other three and doesn't look too bad IMG20240208111050.jpg IMG20240208172731.jpg

Hey Chucky ... Curious to the make/year of your ride - I noticed the trim badges on your dash, I have one that's been hangin around forever ... was in my grandfather's parts pile, my dads, and now mine - always wondered what it was out of it!
