Installed a mechanical oil pressure gauge in the Cabriolet. Really good oil pressure, at hot idle, for a banger.

  2. I run the Offenhauser intake with a pair of Carter AFB's and I only had to shave the window area on a regular points distributor to adjust timing.
Is there that much difference between a WCFB and an AFB ???

Alternator mount for the Coupster - Full in position
    DSC00525.JPG

Alternator slides up side of block to full out position.
    DSC00526.JPG

Two pieces of mount attached to block.
    DSC00531.JPG

Back bracing attached to the block, slotted arm is gusseted. - Actual adjustable mount laying on cart.
    DSC00532.JPG

The first design resulted from not wanting the alternator up high interfering with the view of the 3 deuces. I had the mount swinging from the top bolt on the front of the engine trying to find its optimum position before drilling the bottom bolt hole. Trying to keep the pivot point as close to the block as possible, it looked like it might be possible to slot the bottom hole and let the alternator slide up and down the side of the block. A couple of tries and it worked. After reading on here about people having trouble with the bolts into the front of the block breaking off, I went back and added the back brace and redid the mount incorporate it. One unintended consequence. It pushed the mount out enough to clear the timing cover bolts and I gained a little more range of adjustment.

Yeah, there is. You can see it pretty clear on this photo I found on a Corvette forum.

Where the AFB is pretty much straight across the back, the WCFB has a bulge on the back side, runs right into the distributor cap.

That's nice. I like a low mount for the alternator.

  9. We drove the Ranch Wagon to the Cherokee rod run over the weekend, this morning when it's time to go to the shop I started looking for my keys they were no where to be found so I have been in the '32 today. HRP

  10. You should trade those in for AFB's, better performance and more clearance

    Edit :
Here's what the 2 inch spacers would look like, when I had those on.

On mine, with an old early Offenhauser tri-power, I filed a notch 180* out and put the cap on backwards. Just have to set the points with a feeler gauge.

They used them stock from 56-61 but they had the dual point distributors some with tach drives which I think were smaller. Do the Offy manifolds have the carbs in a slightly different spot than the Chevrolet 245-270?

I don't know, it looks like it's about the same. I bit the bullet and bought a dual point distributor off the For Sale forum.

  15. I've never had a stock 2x4 intake but the Offy is spread further than an Edelbrock for sure, I've got both. I always thought the stock 2x4 was more like the Edelbrock's.

  16. Drilled our dash for some old pilot lights I had. Made the bulb holders out of 1/2"conduit, shim washers, and a little solder.

STUDEBAKER BUILD 008.JPG I finished up my alternator brackets and ended up using the cs130 alternator as it was a little smaller than the 10si giving me a little more clearance from the block. Also it is new and I had a plug for it on hand. I also made a couple cuts on some left over pipe so I am close to having my exhaust system to get the fumes out from under the cab. Rolled it out and put the trailer in the work bay. Put the Whatever project in the parking bay for the daily driver. I'm going to finish the trailer now, really I am. I promise, I'll get it done... oh I did order steering parts. Be here Monday.

It's time for a reverse eye spring to drop the front end on the Cabby
I think the dual side mount fenders are going to get replaced too IMG_20211023_151304342.jpg

I got the shaft today! No, really I got a 3 foot section of double D shaft today. So it's not a bad thing!

I am a little closer to hearing this thing run. Turbo 400 dipstick tubes are in short supply , OEM ones that is. So I had a tube with the end broken off and no mounting strap. They make a end you can weld on the broken tube and it also lets you get rid of the oring and use the top hat style seal . So I brazed that on ( it's been a long time since I have brazed anything as the photo shows ) Then I fabbed up a mounting strap and brazed that on also. It worked out well, easy to get to from the top, clears the valve cover so all is well with that. Next on the list was the oil dipstick. Again , left side OEM is hard to come by. I ordered the lower tube new from my local Chevy store but they no longer service the upper tube but you can still get the stick. So a friend had a tube and a stick he let me pull out of a old motor. So to get the left side header off and on is a breeze when the tube is not in the block. So I fabbed up a bracket that will slide over the tube after you put it in place ( with a small oring at the bottom ) and a nut holds it in place. Now the tube is sealed off and nice and tight but can be removed in about 2 minutes. studebaker build 023.JPG studebaker build 026.JPG studebaker build 009.JPG studebaker build 011.JPG

I have been sitting on my hands since monday the 18th , that was the day I first drove it around the block with the Roller Motor 5.0 , the old 302 has a cast iron cam and cast iron distributor gear , the 5.0 has a billet steel cam and requires a steel distributor gear , so to keep from dissolving the cast iron gear into my engine , I ordered a New Distributor and steel gear from Ford Performance , supposed to arrive by wednesday the 27 th. maybe sooner , expecting feet of snow over the next 2 days , hope to be running and driving mid week .

Did what I still like to do at 77.. Didn’t get the speed I was hoping for but enjoyed a couple of runs at El Mirage at 150+. Seems like I’m running out of ideas or money. First good runs on the rear tires and wheel I had made last year. No slip hooked up fine.
Hard to believe what I costs to do it now over the 70--80’s. Of course then I didn’t go to the closest town and get a motel room and eat in restaurants. 3267F49F-1674-4695-91A7-EB1A54235DB7.jpeg EC30FB5F-5977-410F-8F11-913407C8C8C2.jpeg

studebaker build 011.JPG studebaker build 017.JPG studebaker build 019.JPG studebaker build 001.JPG studebaker build 007.JPG I have several things all in the works. The headers I am using are pretty sweet. Inch and 3/4 pipes and nice and long collectors but they sure missed it on the holes in the collector flanges. They are not even close to lining up. But I had some extras that fit correctly. I set the radiator support in place along with the trans cooler. Also got my distributors out to see what I have to work with, I will probably use the stocker to fire it off and ultimately plan on using the tach drive. But my friend ! who donated it to the build tightened the screws on the top plate so tight that so far I have broken 3 Allen wrenches trying to get them loose. But I would guess it has been 30 yrs since they were last touched. Another friend has offered up a Moroso mechanical tach so hopefully this thing will come apart. Also on the list is the fuel line and finishing the throttle linkage. studebaker build 017.JPG studebaker build 019.JPG studebaker build 001.JPG View attachment 5211492 View attachment 5211492 View attachment 5211492 studebaker build 007.JPG

As threatened, the dual side mounts are off and hung fenders I gathered up years ago with this in mind. Got some tin work, cleaning, adjusting, sanding and painting to do now. Waiting on bushings before the reverse eye spring can go in.
I think I'm going to like the look...
