Curious how many past and present Roaring 30's members and cars were there? I don't get around the St. Louis area but years ago the Roaring 30's were quite the prestigious club....maybe still are.

Good thing you didn't mention what kind of oil you bought or this thread would drift at the speed of light!

Worked on and modified parts and pieces for the Powerglide that I plan to use in my under-construction FED. Getting close to assembly time. The modifications I did will either make it a better transmission for it's purpose, or.....I ruined some parts of a perfectly good core PG. I'm following the "directions" in a very complete Powerglide book, so I hope my reading comprehension and picture-following skills are on track.

I swapped in the correct ohm coil just now and it fires right off no problem. It used to crank for like 5 to 10 seconds sometimes and I always wondered why. My old coil read 3 1/2 ohms post to post and my new one is 1.5 which is supposed to be the correct for the V8. Whoops

Aired up the tires. While on the creeper greasing the driveline the other day I noticed the plumber's tape I used as a temporary battery hold down several years ago had failed and there was nothing holding down the battery at this point. So today I fabricated a simple battery hold down with a piece of flat bar stock and a couple of threaded j-hooks from the local Auto-Zone. Tried to paint it all up, but I didn't allow enough time between application of the primer and the paint, which caused the paint to crinkle. I didn't have time to redo it, so I'll have to sand it all down and repaint it later. For now it's installed for the cruise tomorrow. Now I'm off to the House of Blues for a gig, whoot!

Replaced the worn 15" air cleaner and rocker boxes (oops, valve covers) that were slightly rusted and replaced them with new, plus filters and breathers.

  11. Unboxed my rack and pinion kit the other day. Sorted through the parts and read the instructions.

Ordered a PS pump, brackets and other goodies from Classic Industries to the tune of $315... with free shipping. Opted for a new pump. I still need a belt and an adapter for the pressure-side of the pump to the 6AN lines... hope they fit. Also need to knock the pump pressure down from 1200 PSI to around 900.

  12. It has been one year ago since the accident. At this time last year I was almost done with the repairs and improvements . Thanks for reminding me of one of the worst day in my life.

Pulled apart the top of the steering column and figured out why the turn signals would not cancel in one direction. It was a simple fix for an issue that’s bugged me since the truck has been drivable…

Got the Stude off the ground to look things over after putting a few miles on it. All is well, no leaks and nothing loose. I had all the rockers off the motor after a little run time and had 2 or 3 touching the retainers. Clearanced those and buttoned it up. So after driving it some and spinning the motor up a few times I thought I would take another look at them. There were 3 that had a slight witness mark so I touched those up and changed the oil and filter will I was at it. The good news is the valve adjustment was still spot on ( no cam wear ) and the rockers are running dead center (maybe a little to the inside of the valve tip ) I like to see them about 10 thous. to the inside myself. So my white lithium grease and a mix of 20 year old Kendall GT 50 and a couple qts of VR1 60 on my used flat tappet cam with the used lifters that were tossed in a box has made it through 20 gallons of Cam2 so far !
My new blend is some 40, 50 and 60 weight ZR1 ( they used to make some off road ZR1 but I am out of that ) Any oil is better than no oil ! IMG_0351.JPG IMG_0350.JPG IMG_0354.JPG IMG_0349.JPG IMG_0355.JPG IMG_0356.JPG Got it back on the ground my Bride came out and said "take me for a spin" so we went for a little ride. Plus all the plugs looked great ! I got a 750 Holley on it. It is/was new a few years ago. It was run on the dyno taken off had the bowls pulled off and dried out, set on a shelf with a rag over it until it was passed along to me. I bolted it on without touching it and it runs super. Pretty amazing really that the pumps hadn't turned hard. You know the old saying "Fuck it ! run it !

Random thought...how often should I prime the oil pump? I have an engine that was sitting around a few years when I got it. I've had it for two years now and have primed the pump about once a year.
    Should I keep priming it?

  18. Topher, I always like to prime and turn the engine over manually to a different position.

  23. IMG_0137.JPG IMG_0138.JPG Made the drivers side motor mount, lots to clear and make as much room as possible for the exhaust. I may add some holes to it in the future. It's made from 5 pieces of 3/16" flat stock and no it's not a solid chunk. Thus why I may add holes to it. Edit: both sides now done, time to move rearward to the transmission ans frame x-members. 26. Haven't been doing much other than therapy on shoulder. Sucks to be so limited right now. Did get a few parts painted along with shaping the dash knobs. Going to try to move some stuff around so I can get a buffer out and polish them. Knob project may work out yet; least it is something new to try.

  27. I think I have almost everything here or on order for my rack & pinion steering swap. Classic Industries order should arrive late in the week or early next week. Local speed shop had a 6AN to NPT adapter, pressure reducer is coming via eBay. From there if the kit hoses work out, all I need is a belt and PS fluid.

About 3 years ago I changed my valve springs and retainers in the car because some touched. I found some bee-hive style springs and retainers in the Competition Products Catalog that would work with the pressure and lift. Never gave them a thought before that.

You might try a 55-up V8 Chevrolet generator adjustable arm. They curve at the end only where the slot is and are flat. You’ll need to cut it shorter and drill a new mount hole. I’ve used them on a lot of close mounted alternators
