I really do not want to build a car with known issues, maybe growing up with old cars is why I am pretty flexible about what hot rods are. I expect them to be dependable and drive good in modern traffic.
I'll say with age, the comforts, amenities weigh in for me at 70. For me, its "been there, done that", had a Highboy Roadster, 32 3 window, (IMO, definitions of a Hot Rod) currently a 51 Merc that's a comfy cruiser. I have always had at least 1 OT late model hot rod (2 now) still enjoy "cruisin" down the road to events, just the fun of a ride for lunch 100 miles away, the trip equals the destination most times and will till my expiration date, probably in my OT rides. A real Hot Rod is like a chopper, Kool as Hell, but good for short rides IMO, I had dresser type motorcycles from 74-2010 because of same deal, enjoyed the ride. Have read, "The goal of life is to slide in sideways, wore out, used up and say, Man what a ride" have lived my life using this goal, now enjoying my retirement/life, my ideas have mellowed and not in a hurry anymore to slide in anywhere, am used up, wore out, just not in a hurry to finish it off. LOL I realize the young guns are going to jump in, to them I say, Be nice to old people, REMEMBER, one day you will be old
